What has happened with the human race?

*****BEFORE I post this I wish to ask folks not to turn this into a mud slinging/hate spewing thread. If it does happen, then I ask the mods to close and/or bin this thread immediately. I'm looking for opinions and thoughts, not trying to stir up the hatred that is so rampant now days.*******

I'm sure some have seen the news about the lady who was found guilty of murdering 2 people who she thought were illegal aliens in Arizona. see story here...http://newamericamedia.org/2011/02/...urder-in-arizona-could-face-death-penalty.php
One of the persons was a child of 9 years of age. And according to the testimony of the mother who survived, the child pleaded for her life after being initially shot, and was gunned down in cold blood.
WHAT THE FUCK has happened to society in general?
I understand that this mentally has been around for eons....ex. the Klan and their stupid activities such has when they bombed the church that killed those little girls.
But, It seems nowdays that hatred is rampant everywhere. God forbid if you don't think like others, are from a different country, or worse yet don't worship the same God as someone else.

I remember growing up when criminals, regardless of their status on the criminal status pole, had 1 rule that was never to be broken. YOU DON'T HURT CHILDREN or do activities around them. Hell even the Mafia enforced that rule strictly. And if you violated that rule you were dead meat. Either in society or prison.

Where did the this mind set come from nowdays? Where have we, the human race, failed? and why?

I don't know......I'm rambling because I'm pissed that this happened to this child. I'm pissed at how this world has turned out for my son/daughter and grandkids. I'm disappointed that man can become so advanced technologically, but yet can't get their acts together when it comes to compassion, respect and love.

Off my soapbox now. Thoughts? Opinions? And please KEEP THIS CIVIL.
Thank you.

We have a mass of people who believe what they are told to believe.

What the world needs is a move in the direction of compassionate rationalism. We need government to work for people instead of business.

Happy, healthy, productive citizens should be the goal of any society.

I don't see this as a new problem. Adults have been killing children since beginning of recorded history. If you want to really work up your emotions check out infanticide.org they give a brief history of the atrocities awarded children. We as a whole need to be more aware of the things hidden in plain sight. Love

THC and Poopy.
Thank you for your input. Both of you brought very valued points to the table.
THC...your points are very true although the religious aspect I will not touch. To me religion is a very private matter. I have studied various religions and have found that no matter what the religion, we all are seeking the same thing.
Poopyteabags.....Spot on with the parenting part. I was raised by my grandparents, and if I did anything out of line, I would get an ass whipping like there's no tomorrow. And one thing a child does not want, is to get a beat down in front of ones friends by grandma. Because granny did not play.

Again thank you for sharing your thoughts.

perspective is almost always going to make 'now' the most effed up time period you can conceive of.

it's going to make yesterday's pot better than it was, today's current events into destruction of civilization before your very eyes, and tomorrow's bacon into the tastiest thing that ever could happen.

just throwing this out here - it doesn't lessen anything else, or make the past worse than the present - but do you remember the lady who drown her own kids? (the fact you have to ask 'ok, which one' is probably telling)

Do you remember nations shifting nuclear weapons around with the likely Press-the-Red-Button moment always feeling like it was within the next week?

there was an era that saw men, women, and children by the thousands led into showers and gassed to death. that horror you describe above, multiplied exponentially.

go back further, there was a time when you could go downtown, and just buy another human being. the idea of any horrors visited upon them didn't matter, as they weren't even considered human.

go back further, and everybody was a vassal of their baron, belonging in essence to the land instead of the other way around.

go back further, and you could have faced torture and death for not only believing differently - but for political spite/backbiting neighbor syndrome.

you look around you and you see a whole mess of fucked up stuff - the thing is, the folks living in the eras listed above could have done the same - and every one of them felt as if things were coming to a point, a progression that could not continue.

the thing is, the progression didn't continue, and if you're honestly comparing past horrors with the present...it's hard to still feel like the world is falling down around your ears.

humans have good, bad, and ugly in them, and always have. just like we've always thought that the day of reckoning or eternal damnation for our horrors are always just around the bend - the thing is, we're only evaluating what's in front of us at that very second - and the horrors will always seem like it's a pinnacle.

it just isn't.

humans have a whole passle of horrors left to introduce the world to, i have no doubt...that said, we've also come a long way if you look at the horrors we used to see as familiar.

so...who wants some bacon?

Headband, Anti, Lord Siva.
Thank you also for your input.
Lord, you made a good point. It has been around since the inception of mankind. I guess with the internet nowday, it's thrown into our faces more.
I guess being a parent and grandparent, this just hits me a little harder.

America, at least, is a nation divided. Individual cooperation between citizens has given way to a giant rat race mentality, me before him @ all costs, in all probability due to the "grind money => achieve goods/services/buy property => retire in luxury" way of life that is fully supported & endorsed by our corporate society.

These kinds of things just don't surprise me. People barely respect/cooperate with one another anymore. Add an element of racial difference and presto, bullets start flying.

well this is also a consequence of capitalsm , both parents have to go work to pay the bills and have a bit of luxury

so they almost dont HAVE any time left , in the past at least the mom was at home

I dont agree with gdtrfb, i agree with the individual points he makes as true (broadly) but not the thrust.

I think this is very unusual.

For a woman, to murder or even execute a child, in cold blood, in peacetime, in a prosperous modern country, this is very strange and unusual.

As for what was in her mind, i can only imagine (with difficulty).

I see this as more a part of the post 9-11 world we live in, greater intolerance, massive paranoia, huge over reactions.

i dunno, i think we all by and large just want a better world for our kids/grandkids. Nostalgia can make the past seem a lot better than it was when you get into comparing now vs then.

it's a mixed bag currently, and it was a mixed bag yesterday.

if i was placing bets, i'd put my money on tomorrow being much the same. there's things that are in our pasts we wouldn't want our kids to ever be subjected to - and there's things our kids will deal with as 'the norm' that we just can't conceive of.

very good points dude. thanks for sharing.

i believe i could engender mid east peace, if only i could get them to explore the wonder of a good BLT. ;)

I agree. That's the main problem of the middle east. They need to just come together and have a good ol' fashion pig roast. Nothing brings folks together better IMO.
*** no offense to those that don't eat pork due to religious beliefs. This was just poking fun at the crisis going on over there.***

Seems to me there is two different trains of thought going on here. Lets remember the shooter was involved in a home invasion for drugs, supposed to be a million dollars worth of drugs. The ranch was picked for its remote location.
Now the fact that these people and the daughter were murdered by people looking for drugs, not some mentally ill woman that kills here children to put them in a better place or just because she has some serious mental problems. No, this woman was a stone cold killer that was looking for a rip off, she shot everyone so there were no witnesses, plain old hardcore murder, no mental illness involved( other than what's needed to murder someone anyway thats not self defense).
A large part of the blame rests with societal mores and the fuck everyone it's every man for himself attitude thats being promoted rather than as a society that work for the good of the whole. In my opinion that woman and the two guys yet to be tried should get to be hung for murder, Doesn't Arizona hang people, they should seems they are reverting to the wild wild west.
THE ABOVE OPINION ABOVE IS MINE AND MINE ALONE.

Humans have always been like this, it's nothing new. The only difference is that nowadays with media and all you get to hear every single story about what a dumb motherfucker did!
