Evolution: Safe Cannabis has arrived….

Medical cannabis patients and providers are becoming far more sophisticated in the Age of Obama. Steep Hill Lab in Oakland has rolled out a sweet new program that gives the grower a leg up in the marketplace and helps patient collectives make much beter decisions about where they get their medicine. The SAFE CANNABIS program is offered as a means to allow growers to test their medicine before taking it to their collective. What this does in takes the burden off of the collective, in an effort to bring the product in pre-tested and ready to hit the shelf. The super tech packaging includes a window for viewing the medicine, a humidity marker to let you know it is at appropriate curing points, and an oxygen indicator to show the product is fresh and untampered with. The one pound packages are injected with nitrogen to assure freshness and sealed. Labeling includes a batch and lot number, as well as appropriate documentation to meet normal chain of custody requirements of the medical industry.

The service is relatively reasonable if you consider that it gives you a leg up over the many other folks looking to get their medicine on the shelf. It promotes safety and professionalism and is a good idea. It is not long until this will be a standard in the medical cannabis industry, but for now it is a great way to ensure patient safety and make your harvest a sure bet to get purchased by your local collective. All collectives should begin suggesting their vendors move in this direction IMO. If I were a collective I would surely pay a couple bucks more for a professional product that has been safety tested and professionally packaged. It is a no-brainer. Patients also are willing to dig a little deeper for a product in which they know the potency levels and are sure it is of the highest quality. This type of patient service is becoming the norm at a lot of collectives. Providing as much relevant and educational information about the medicine patients are using is an invaluable resource. We are just beginning to see the evolution of it as people now discuss the technicalities of the medicines (THC and CBD levels), as much as the smell, taste and effect. As people connect the dots between cannabinoid profiles and medicinal effects we are seeing a more engaged and informed patient as a result.

The Safe Cannabis program also brings a lot of comfort to people charged with regulating this industry. More cities, counties and municipalities are looking to regulate the industry, and many areas have required testing of the medicine to assure quality and safety. Collectives are responsible for the testing, but like I mentioned…what a far less pain in the ass it is if the vendor walks in with the medicine pre-tested. As regulation continues to develop you can be sure that safety testing will be a big part of the discussion. If you are not testing yet, you should be. Get ahead of the game. It is easy to do. I think they said it was all handled in 48 hours or less. What this level of safety testing does is legitimizes the effort of our industry and takes away the opposition argument that marijuana is unsafe and untested. As we win over the hearts and minds of those who do not understand medical cannabis, the more proof we can show of our effort to make cannabis safe and ensure quality, the weaker the opposition argument becomes.

Because we are a medical focused industry who provide medicines that are meant to help and not harm the end user, the more we can assure that the better we all are. We are only as good as our weakest link and the Safe Cannabis program seems to strenghthen all of our links. So get down with the evolution and get with the program. Step your game up. That looks very nice love the packaging. I can see where you would benefit if you where to have yours tested. I might give that a try and see if it makes it easier to distribute the meds. No prices what this would cost. If producers start doing this I'm sure the cost will be added to the cost of your meds.

Eventually labeling each product with lab tested analysis will be standard, it's the only way that I see patients ever being able to actually dose themselves correctly. Just a new industry that is being created as a result of MMJ, isn't this what Obama called for in the State of the Union? The only downside is this will create an increase in cost which I see being passed down to the patient.

The testing isn't for the whole crop. They just take random samples of the batch to test, so some pathogens can get through.

It will help cut down on all $$$ focused growers not taking care of their plants or product, but for pristine quality control over every piece of bud being ingested is near impossible and much too costly.

It would be better to have inspectors regularly check the grow facility, like USDA, they don't just go an pull a random bag of chips to check the quality, thats for the manufacturer to do. USDA goes over all the equipment, checks sanitation procedures, etc. That would be much more effective, as well as cost efffective.

Not to mention you can hook up cameras like many of the legal grows are already doing so that you can also have visual proof that is everything is being kept pristine.

On the other hand, the FDA does allow for certain amounts of "contaminants" in the product, so the testing of small samples may be sufficient... for the FDA, would rather grow my own as this product goes into my lungs/bloodstream, not my stomach where contamination does not matter nearly as much.

I don't know....in theory it all sounds good but the thing that gets me is why do they have that RF tag on the bag??? Tracking maybe??

knowing what you are getting is always good, if that is really what it is and all that it really is. But it seems a little too pre-packaged and homogenized, as in too good to be true, from where I am sitting. Time will tell I guess.

yea thats true, i think when it becomes 100% legal you wont even see much buds anymore, youd have to goto the specialty weed shop like a cigar/ pipe tobacco store

but this is 100% marketing , to truely know its safe you gotta be the one to grow it or at least know how the grower does it from a-z

labs have been testing cannabis for dispensaries for years now. i have a buddy that works at a thc testing lab. its a good thing to have but its not nearly new and its one step towards making cannabis mainstream legal.its like food health and safety inspections for restaurants.
if weed becomes 100% legal you can guarantee everyone is going to need to lab test their product

I hate this shit so much!
This is why I hate democrats as much as republicans.
Rather than judging meds by worthless gas-chromo readings why not judge them on their effectiveness on patients.
Higher THC does not necessarily mean stronger or better so other than being an added and probably forced expense what good does this do?

My friend loves the cannabis testing program. What he does is he brings his weed in to get tested, the mold free stuff.....then he takes the junk to the dispensary after being tested for no contaminants. Great idea!

Even better yet, pre-packaged, so that everyone truly believes that there are no impurities. Now he'll appear even more legit, even though his stuff is junk.

Now, if we can only get a hydro vs soil test, to eliminate all hydro grown weed with chemicals. :moon:

that should do that chemical spectrum analysis thing on it to. in the uk they spray the cannabis with a chemical to make it look more potent

Yeah maybe some dumbasses like stupid kids do stuff like that and if you can't tell it's been adulterated by looking at it closely under bright light (I do this with all bud I smoke) then you need to not be smoking buds as far as I am concerned and stick with a beer can or pack of newports. ;)

These are one pound bags. Not sample packs. Its not like you bring in one tested bag and the rest in a turkey bag....then whats the point?

they take 3 samples.
one bud from the top of the plant.
one from the middle
one from the bottom.
and they test all 3 and give you a rounded estimate on the thc% levels.

ive seen this done at a lab in son.co
