I agree with the above. However, I am curious as to how you arrived at the 110 degrees (assuming you are talking Fareinheit and not Celcius).

While I am sure that it is a nice safe number to try and stay under, I'm pretty sure that the potency is not degragated until reaching a much higher temp

Either way... I agree with ya... Certainly not trying to call you out or anything. Excellent thread BTW! :headbange

Hey Gunns! No worries here, mate - the farenheit temps were from an old High Times article I believe. If memory serves me correctly (drawing from any that's left! :yoinks: ) it was stated that THC begins to degrade at temps above 119 deg F. I don't know if it referred to the plant matter or other checmicals directly, only that it stated heat was the enemy of THC. Also, I take it with a grain of salt and tongue in cheek knowing the source! :pointlaug

LOL... interesting. :)

Admittingly Im too lazy to look it up.. LOL I was thinking that the degradation of THC started around 215f... or somewhere around there.

Thanks for the reply! I'm gld you didn't take it the wrong way!

!!!dehydrator with choice of temperature

!!!dehydrator with choice of temperature

Generally the simple cheap dehydrators works on 80 celsius. It's not good.

In the "Top Quality Marijuana Growing 2004" movie (krom?), the men dry her buds in 78 (172 F) celsius. It's top quality? 78 C? It's not wrong?

I found some dehydrators with choice of temperature.

# 700 Watt heat output
# Timer switch with automatic switch-off
# 3 power settings:
- Step 1 approx. 20°C above ambient temperature
- Step 2 approx. 40°C above ambient temperature
- Step 3 approx. 60°C above ambient temperature

So if i stay under 110 degrees F (43 Celsius), it is good? So i Use "Step 2 approx. 40°C (104 F) above ambient temperature", is GOOD???????

Other dehydrators with choice of temperature:
-Nesco Gardenmaster Dehydrator
-Stöckli Dörrex
-Rommelsbacher DA750
......

SO!
Please HELP ME! Is good drying method in low temp?

Thank you in anticipation for the answers!!!!

I'm sure you guys are so stoned you can't read anything correctly.....

We are talking about using the dehydrator to speed up the drying BEFORE we cure it.

Drying is a real pain for me as I live near the mild damp sea and it rains a lot - therefore I got a mould issue. Also because of odour issues I'm limited where I can dry.

So the question is ... will a food dehydrator used on a low setting - say under 60c - speed up the drying without affecting the taste, smell etc of the weed?

We all know a slow dry and long cure is best but sometimes we all need to adapt.

Please only reply if you have actually used a dehydrator.

Peace.

rofl!

Yes it can be used to dry buds if you don't have a drying cabinet or whatever. As people before me have said, the heat will cause the buds to dry fast, which will require you to have to cure them longer afterward. Also, if you are a half hour too late to remove the buds, it might mean disaster for your entire crop. So ideally you would want to dry them in a slightly less warm temperature, to lengthen the drying process.

I've dried buds in a dehydrator before, and it worked great! But that one had an adjustable dial for the temperature. I eventually just stopped turning it on at all, and placed the dehydrator in a room with a ceiling fan on high. That worked well.

Thanks hush.. exactly what I was hoping.

I'm thinking of getting a dehydrator which starts with temps as low as 30c - hopefully that will slow down the drying a little.

I'm not bothered about curing times .. I'm prepared to wait a few months if I have to.

There are a few decent dehydrators that will allow you to turn the temps waaay down. I can't imagine, though, that it would really be good for anything other than flash drying a test bud here and there..

I have and will continue to use jerky maker/dehydrator to get some rush buds to smoke on.

Now i dont mean burnt tasting and shit. It comes out with the taste of your bud, with some added chlorophyll. not too much if you do it right.

I use one that has *95F,105, 115 and such.

fresh cut 6 hours on 95 is great, smokeable even in a joint, and you can put it in a jar and it will actually somewhat cure out. Or fresh cut at about *105-110 for two or three hours will give you harsher smokeable bud.

Of course this isnt the best, and I use regular drying methods for most stuff, but you definitely have a decent product in the end.

edit-all temps are in Farenheit

My buddy and I had a bet going, seeing as he thought this was the best possible method because it was so fast compared with hanging to dry. He bet me an oz that I could not distinguish between buds that he hung to dry and buds that he dehydrated, both of which were then cured for approximately the same time, the ones from the hanging method obviously a few days less.

I was able to pick it out without a problem, due to the harshness and chlorophyll taste left behind in the dehydrated bud. I have to say there is no more enjoyment I have received then when I was smoking his Oz without having to trade him for some of my own.
