hey guys. been growing in coco for awhile now and this run im doing my first sativa dominate strain. the clones are a chem cut.

they are in canna coco/perlite at a 3/1 ratio
canna a+b
rizotonic
cannazyme
pro tek- silica
tap water (80ppms)
ph 5.8-5.9
temps are a bit high around 80F
low humidity

anyone have an idea what the curl/burn is? i think the rust discoloring in pic two is a calcium deficiency???

Hey man,
How low is the rel hum? I noticed that in pic #2 the leaf in the background is curling up as well, or Is this the same leaf as in pic #1? And yeah, you are correct on the start up of a def....either cal or mag...or both. There is a sick plants sticky thread in the infirmary that was put up to show things like this, as well as helpful tips on how to treat it.
How far along are you? Is this in 24/0 light cycle or is this 18/6, or 12/12?
What temps/hum when if lights off?

hey justin! thanks for your quick reply. my current humidity is sitting at about 30% and night temps are hitting about 68-70F. they are in a 16/8 lighting cycle and the leaf curl you see in picture two is actually a different plant than in picture one. vie used the sick plant guide many times before but this is something i still cant seem to identify the problem.

to me it seems that the problem in pic two is an early stage of picture one... what do you think? anybody...

Seems like you identified your problem already. Humidity is too low imo ='s leaf curl...combined with rust spots ='s start of def.....try to get rel hum up if you can. You can foliar feed when lights off and this will help give them some moisture. Try to get yourself some cal/mag or if in a bind can also use some epsom salts...J.C. used epsom in a bind at about a 1/2 teaspoon per gallon of nutes when def 1st crept up on me and worked rather well. But while in veg had used cal/mag + from (botanicare I think) at 10 ml per gallon and that kicked ass...should not use that cal/mag+ in flower though...Hope this helps...

so id agree getting the humidity up, would help a lot. as for the rust spots, assuming it is a cal deficiency- i don't think epson salt would help as that is used for a mag supplement but not cal. i was trying to avoid using any cal/mag supplement but it looks as that may be the issue.
how often do you water with the cal/mag?

Not to get too off topic here...but if you do not want to use cal/mag you could always go out and get a bottle of superthrive. That made it so I have no issues at all...am also using canna line as well. A drop of superthrive per gallon in my res and I have no issues at all with def. Sometimes I skip adding it to my res or go 1/2 str because things are almost TOO green.
Also, with canna (supposedly) you should not have to use a supplement for cal/mag. There nutes are supposed to have plenty of stuff in there for you.

I forgot to mention this earlier and am sorry for that. :wallbash: But with my room while running canna I run ph at 6.0-6.2 for proper nute up-take. When I was running B-Cuzz nutes, I was at 5.8 ph and had no issues (except cal/mag def)....but with canna 6.0-6.2 seems like a better range for some reason.

Here's a pic I reference quite often to help me out with plants up-taking nutes. Play with my ph to take care of issues like this as well, stopped using cal/mag+ during flower and played with ph to keep issue from being an issue.
Hope I was of some help.:tiphat:

so i decided to just go out and get a bottle of sense cal grow. hopefully this will fully fix my problem. i have played around with raising the ph in effort to get better uptake of nuts. thanks for confirming that this is a sensible way to grow! :dance013: but for now i will try the cal/mag...

I use Botanicare coco, the 1.5 cu. ft. bag. Runoff is low and I balance pH at 5.8 before planting, but once I start growing and go through a few feedings, the pH just goes up to 6.2. No matter what I do, so I just give them 5.6-5.8 going in every feeding.

My plants are ok and one is a real fast grower even. But monitoring my runoff has been nerve wracking and I'm sick of worrying about it. Hearing you seem just fine at 6.2 also makes me feel at ease. Although its also prob. strain dependent. Maybe its the brand of coco or something, not sure. I'm new to coco though so maybe I'm missing something.

Either way, I just monitor whats going in and they do fine. Once my runoff gets to be 2-300ppm higher than input, I just do a 200% flush with 300ppm solution.

Well, everyone's room is different. I also do not bother checking run off in coco unless I see an issue. But then again have not seen one, so have not bother checking run off...one of the reasons for switching from soil to coco...no more worries about checking run off...are you using canna nutes for coco? I use it now and it says on calculator to have ph at 6.1-6.2 so that is what I have been doing...so far no issues...green and healthy.

i've heard that checking your run off in coco is irrelevant and i've never had a problem, not checking my runoff-ph

I will occasionally check my runoff in flower and am always shocked at how high my ppm runoff is, yet the plants are healthy. seems in coco they take up what they want and leave the rest as long as the coco is not too dry. I never bother with the ph coming out of my pots, and usually set my rez ph to 5.2-5.5 and by the end of the week it is up at 6.2, using GH, both nova and flora
