Maybe you're pulling the air through the filter to fast. If it's going through too fast the odor won't have enough residence time going through the carbon to react. Put a speed controller on the fan, slow it down a bit and that should take care of the problem. I have to do this with my set up. Otherwise the odor will pass right on through.
I know, I know. You say, but my filter is rated for xxx cfm and that's what my fan pulls through it. Mines rated for over 1100 cfm and my fan pulls 1019cfm. It'll pull odor through it every time if I run it at full speed. Slowed down it works. Try it out and see what happens.
Now, as others have noticed and mentioned, you're not exhausting out of the room.
You're pulling so much air through the fan/filter that you're pressurizing the room. Over pressure so to speak. What ever smell that is there is being pushed out the room by whatever means it can find. This push out of air is also adding to what you are now smelling. Air is like water. If there's a way out it'll find it. Around the door, the frame, the window, window frame, etc.
Hope that made a little bit of sense. I'm a bit stoned blurry at the moment.

absolute agreement on the fan speed thing. speed controller will run about $40. your filter looks a little small for your space also, but it could/should work. fix it ASAP good luck

My first grow a few months ago was a 4k stadium really cheap grow, walls stapled to garage studs and to 2x4's on floor, taped and sealed up. pics in my album. it was cooled by negative pressure, fresh outside air from under the house flowing through and exhaust right outside 10 ft away. two 8" fans one vortex (740~ cfm) one s&p (535 cfm), vortex was on a canfilter rated for 900 something cfm and s&p was on a phresh filter 8".. both my exhaust vents wreaked unbearably.. Humidity was around 40 in flower if i recall correctly.. Should i still slow the fans down?? Could it have just been the strains? sfv og, williams wonder, green crack.. i'm trippin because i have some ecsd and blue dream ready to go under 12/12

i would check for leaks in the connection between fan and filter that would allow dirty air to get exhausted without being scrubbed

Here's the deal. EACH STRAIN HAS IT'S OWN LEVEL OF STANKY GOODNESS THAT NEEDS TO BE DEALT WITH.

Here's the deal. EACH STRAIN HAS IT'S OWN LEVEL OF STANKY GOODNESS THAT NEEDS TO BE DEALT WITH. Caps were added for emphases.
Diesel's, chems, kushes, hazes, etc, all have their own smells that need to be dealt with. Some more than others.
The more odor a strain emits the greater care that needs to be taken with odor control.
Slowing the fan speed down allows more "residence time" for the odor to be scrubbed from your operation.
In reality, with even the biggest filter/fan combo, all you want to do is-
1-remove odor
2-provide enough air flow through your ducting to cool the light.
3-bigger setups and for all purposes, each setup, require different considerations to achieve 1 & 2 above.

ECSD fucking wreaks dude. You will need serious odor control with this strain. Trust me on that!!!
Slowing the fan speed, my controller cost just under $30.00, will give you enough control, DEPENDING ON YOUR SETUP, to give the odor enough time to be scrubbed to eliminate the odor while providing cooling to the lights at the same time. You need to find that balance with what you have. Sucking air full speed through your system can and will in many cases still push that smell right on out your vent. This applies if you run the filtered air through your lights or just vent the room through the filter.
Eventually the carbon filter will lose it's ability to contain the odor at which point the filter needs to either be replaced or refilled.
It's always better to have more odor control than you think you'll need than to never have had enough.

OK I just slowed down the fan speed. I have a controller and I put it further down. I walk in the room I smell everything. The filter should be fine for the room size wise etc. I have a stand alone that has the fan sitting ont he topand pulll air through tthe filter. There are cracks int he doors but nothing out of the ordinary. I will see tonight.

Im about to scrap this project actually. I had a REALLY WEIRD experience today. My house is next to an alley so this mirnong I heard people talking outside barely, then I heard that police scanner sound !!! I thought it was my next door neighbors in the alley with the truck and it was something from them. I peaked out snd didnt see anything. so I threw on some clothes in like 5 seconds, ran out to see if i saw anything, nothing. OK now heres where it gets extra strange. I went into the bathroom to do my business kind of wigging out. I hear someone walk up onto the porch steps. I finished my business and peaked out. It was FED Ex guy walking back to the truck. I knew I wasnt expecting any packages so I waited until they left to see if there was a door tag. NO DOOR TAG and im not expecting anything. There were also 2 drivers I think cuz when the guy got back to his truck I saw him kind of throw u his arms a little getting into the truck like he was talking to someone. Im not expecting any packages, no door tag and it appeard he had nothing in his hands. Dude thats too fucked up. Im ready to scrap it. That was too weird of a stretch of events!

1. Dimensions of grow area?

2. CFM rating and duct size of fan or fan's make and model?

3. CFM rating and duct size of scrubber or scrubber's make and model?

4. Is it insulated duct?

5. Are you using aluminum tape and properly sealing each connection?

6. What is the Humidity level in the grow area?

7. How is fresh air getting into your grow area or is the area a sealed room?

8. Is there negative pressure?

9. Tell us how your exhaust is set up.....
CORRECT...Tech the space out for us...

THANKS
