get some good locks and put some sort of wooden stick object behind the windows ontop if the window sill,to block them from opening,if they are trying to be sneaky they wont bust'em to get in. and a alarm sytem sticker/neighbor hood watch ,dont get the alarm the cops will come if its tripped,a safe to put all the real valubles in.

I also have a dog, shes 4 month old, if u seen my post in pets forum
And btw i live in a half decent area , theres only ONE crackhead/trouble maker in the "close" i live mostly pesnioners and few families and they SEE everything and everone, if somethings going down they will know

Thats the ones drug addicts rob. FRIEND OR NEIGHBORS. They know your cool and know your scene, so they rob you. Not some unknown person that might shoot them or worse.
I have been robbed, tied up and beaten, by drug addicts, had all my tools and generators and whatever was worth some thing stolen, ALL BY DRUG ADDICTS. I'm guessing you live in the UK or somewhere guns are not allowed, there was a crack or meth head up the street from where we lived, she came banging on the door one day about how she couldn't work in her yard all night cause of our dog, barking at her ass living about 1/4 mile away, of course when my wife went to the door to find out wtf she wanted & basically told her to go f*ck herself & me getting on her too, she kinda stayed the f*ck away!
Of course me blowing shit away like possums & other critters's with the 12 gauge made people think twice about F**KING with us anyway!
