Opinions on bag seed?

Well then, if they came from killer shit, don't let any of us stop you now from planting them.
A while back someone took some dirt weed schwag seeds, started fiddling with nutes and crosses with other schwag and POW! something dank popped up and he decided to clone that new dankness, pollinate with Betties dirt schwag that smells nice but doesnt hit hard, and then...well it just keeps going. All the 'chronic' these days came from the same genetics that have been passed down for YEARS. 
Thats my thoughts at least. With bagweed seed, you could pop some seeds and grow some hidden phenos that the outdoor nute-free grower may never get to see. Then clone or pollinate and go nuts! Maybe some bagweed has the infamous "yellow & blue" strain hidden in there somewhere? Grow it all and weed out the crap.

I have gotten lucky with bagseed twice in the last fifteen years.Two plants,both keepers.Lost one to underwatering(had to go out of town)and the other was so stinky I could not control the odor so I sacraficed her to the Volcano Gods.

it can come from schwag or killer bud doesn't matter. the seed can still be really good.
I got some brick weed that was full of fully ripe Indica seeds that turned out to have some keepers...
some peoples would have paid good money for these seeds if they were named and sold from the internet
just remember that seed could be awesome, so give it all it needs to thrive like a solid organic soil mix, plenty of light and let it grow itself pretty much. take clones if ya can or else you may be kicking yourself later

Bag seed is like those grab bag deals at Christmas time.
Sometimes you get junk, sometimes you get something awesome worth perpetuating.
Either way, you get experience for little or no $$ and maybe learn something along the way.

I get a guy who smokes shwag and brick to save seeds for me. Just got a new batch yesterday put 30 in a paper towel and away we go 
I find they work well when passing on the torch so to speak... I have a new pup I'm teaching to grow and better they f*ck up on bagseed then seeds @ $18 a throw... Hell it's a free seed plant away

I've done well at times with bagseed as well, you never really know what to expect but if raised with much attention all should be a nice and rewarding experience.

IMHO the literal majority of genetics floating around out there are very good. Even stuff that smokes crappy is mostly just poorly grown, but with great genetic potential waiting to be unleashed.
I've literally never smoked well-grown homegrown in my life, of any strain, and thought "man this stuff really sucks." Ever.

bagseed is always a gamble. IME they have a high tendency to go hermie. I run alot different strains from top breeders but my favorite plant is from a gdp bagseed...but that bagseed was about 1 in 100.
i dont get this frowning down on bagseeds. every bagseed i ever grew was awesome. maybe you guys are getting some sort of not weed in your bags? every seed i have ever grown out turned out to be weed, and it got me high. shit i just smoked some leaves from a 3rd generation bagseed and i am fucking gone right now. it was a male and i chopped it as soon as it showed flowers, i just crushed up 2 of the dried fanleaves no trichs visible anywhere on it. put it in the bong took it to the head and now my eyeballs are red as shit 10 minutes later and im writing a ranty ass post.
go ahead and talk shit to me, you have more ammo now that i told you im smoking leaves from a male plant.
but you guys are the idiots frowning down on free seeds and bragging abuot how you paid x amount of dollars for what i get free. sure im not guaranteed to know exactly what it is im growing but every seed has kush,haze,wreck,ella,iesel,unk,ghani,ough in it. its all weed and all weed has a list of properties that make it weed, in different combinations it will turn purple or be really frosty. but its still just fucking weed. not magic unicorn dust.
dont get me wrong im not shittin on any vendor or named brand weed clone or seed, im just saying i got all that shit too in my jar of magic beans, i just didnt label em all before i put em in there lol.
people be going on about how they couldnt grow bagseed x or bagseed y is always a hermie, but good old $20 a seed super master outdoor shark kush haze, that shit is 100% germ rate always fem and 0% hermies.

Most of the costs associated with growing weed are not the seeds but all the time, nutes, electric, etc that you spend in order to get a crop. Why invest all that time and money on unknown genetics? Also, since most weed is grown seed free now days, any seeds found are probably from hermies. Go ahead and grow bag seed if you want and good luck. Hope you find the next chemdog.
I am not real worried about the cost as I am already growing so this will just be another tree in the room.

there is some killer genetics in bag seeds, sure some hermie, some lots are just plain crap but bag seeds are a fn gold mine...the internet doesn't want that message out there cuz then people stop buying internet seeds and maybe we actually get a domestic seed man out here in the states..i'd make bank if I could get a legit and recognizable name attached so some of these killer bag seeds out to the people...
I know if you know the right people you can still buy great mature seeds in bulk like 1000+ seeds for next to nothing. When I first saw a hydro shop you'd think that the plant is from outspace needing all this equipment and fancy bottled ferts on top of expensive seeds blah blah blah..its all marketing, good marketing but still just the same..its a weed and needs some love but very little will still go a long way...
