If a true breeding female is chosen to use to produce the seeds, then I don't see how a hermie can show up. The problem is with folks who do not put in the time and effort it takes to select a proper female for the fem seed project.
IMO, if the breeder does not already have the stock to work with, it would take perhaps hundreds, if not thousands of selections, to zero in on the true pure breeder.

Yup fms grapefruit:) Go for it if it's released soon... cuttings root easily, it yields well, down in 56-63 days, great aroma and taste, very very good bag-appeal, nice up high.

I have bought many fem seeds and here's my take: I use to use reg. non fem. seeds, and I feel that the plants have more vigor for some reason and grown bigger nad better. I then went to a smaller grow room and started using fem seeds (actually I grew out many fem seeds in my bigger room as well) and will not look back. Yes they are more expensive, but to me they are worth it. I have bought a lot of fem seeds and for some reason I have never had a "true "herm. Yes I have had naners at the later stages of flower, but I have had those on reg seeds as well. Out of all the packs I have grown I think I have had maybe 2 or 3 males, and to me that is awesome. I just don't have the space anymore to grow out 10 seeds/plants in hopes for 5 females. For me it's a no brainer. And, the "watch out for the hermies" phrase is way over written.
And I have had at least 5 or more moms from female strains that were awesome.
P.S. I will say this, I'm growing GHS fem white rhino and it is the worst fem strain I have ever grown. Slow growth, super finicky when it comes to soil ph/nutes, and not a very happy strain. At least the 5 pack I received turned out this way for me.

Had good results with Dutch Passion and Greenhouse fem'd.

GH White Rhino went 5 for 5 and stayed female even through some stress.

On the Dutch Passion skunk one plant busted into a full blown male balls top to bottom a few weeks before the others showed their female traits so I tend to think for whatever reason is was just a seed with all male genes, or whatever. Might not make much sense if they were supposed to be female but no "hermies" per se. Other three stayed completely female and this was after what I would say was some pretty significant stress on two of them.

I'm not sure all breeders use the same techniques to create fem'd seeds so it might have a lot to do with the expertise of the breeder. I'm not as suspicious of them as some people but I have heard the stories about a grow with all plants going hermie. That would be a real bummer.

heres a quote from chimera of chimera seeds. i got it out of high times march 07 in the jorge's rx section:

some growers intentionally use the pollen from intersex(hermaphrodite) plants to fertilize females. they've found that the seeds and subsequent offspring produced from this union will be predominately female. the major problem with this technique is that these plants will have intersex tendacies. by selecting parent plants that have intersex tendacies, we ensure that some of the progeny will also have intersex tendacies. using pollen from an intersex or hermaphrodite plant is an intentional selection for intersexuality- like begets like.

hope that clears things up. :rasta:

Female Seeds Is one of the better companies out there. All there strains are very stable, and have shown very good results with nothing but positive feedback. Most of the good strains are out of stock right now, I somehow managed to get my hands on 4 seeds of the special skunk. And am using all 4 of them for mothers. Check out my grow diary every now and then to see how they do.

wont say what i grew but needless to say many hermed!
and my space is light-proof and no stress on em...
i say a bug FU to fem seeds, they suck in my opinion!
i threw even the ones with no balls on them away for fear of later ball-producing...
cant be havin no unwanted seeds in my shit!

I had nothing but great results from feminized seeds. All germed and were female. Make sure to cover all your stress points. Treat them with tender care and they will reward you with great smoke.

Im sold on them. Ive grown 7 feminized strains and havent seen a hermie yet. Keep the light stable. Ive made clone after clone of every single one of them and I havent had a single male flower in the clones.

Considering that its rare to grow standard seeds and not find a seed or 2 in a number of plants. Cannabis hermies naturally and Ive found the tendency to be less in femmed seeds if the light is held stable.

it seems to me its about a 50/50 split between not liking them and liking them.how many of you thought you had the perfect growing enviroment but still saw hermies?

To be honest if my Femenized GHS White Rhino doesn't hermie at all I will be very impressed. This thing has been through the works. lockouts, light leaks, high temps the only thing stable for a while was humidity. Plants are just about done and I haven't seen any bananas. Knock on wood.

Killed, its my view that anytime hermaphroditism is seen in retail cannabis strains it is due to grower inexperience and poor growing practices. Its the same with seed germination rates.

With this years grow, Ive grown over 80 retail strains and have yet to see a hermie that wasnt due to stress. As an outdoor grower, stress from drought, wind, bugs and everything else place stress on the plant and one needs to expect to find a seed or 2. Its my view that you can pick any 5 standard strains on the market, grow 3 females from each pack outdoors and at least one of the 3 plants of every strain will reveal a seed somewhere in the smoke. All of them without exception.

I will say again, femminized seeds demonstrate less of a tendency to hermie than standard seeds and any behavior that solicits hemaphroditism in a femmed seed will also solicit the phenomenon in standard seeds. Cannabis needs a stable enviromen to grow in. Screw that up and your'e going to see herms, regaurdless of the nature of the seeds.

Femmed Mandala 1 - no male flowers

.

Femmed Cream Caramel - No male flowers on main plant,no male flowers on any of 20 clones

Femmed Himalayan Gold- huge plants but I cant find a male flower. 20 clones and no male flowers on the clones.

Lemon skunk for Ghs. Drought and hurricane battered, cloned and stressed beyond belief - No male flowers.

I've grown fem DP passion#1 outdoors and most put out 1-2 bananas real late on in bloom but were sterile and the 2 that didn't throw out any bananas got pollenated by my special chronic male on to produce amstelonic and non of those have been intersexed so far after growing out 50-60 plants.
You'll proberbly get more hermi's indoor then out because of the unatural nature of the indoor enviroment. This is just what i've discovered myself and some of you will proberbly disagree.

I've done femz from Female seeds (my fave), paradise, nirvana, reeferman, dutch passion and a couple of private breeders. Only negative experience was from rez dog fems. They came out like regular male/female seeds, but other than that, my fem experiences are really good. And i'm currently testing some CH9 fems. TOo early to say much about em, as i just started, but the germ was quick and easy.

Feminized seeds should be banned and the asshole that first came up with the idea should be shot.
