When to start flowering

When should you convert from vegetative to flowering? This is the first time I have tried this. Have lights on 24/7. When should I switch to 12/12? How many days from seedling?

Most people go by size more than time. Do you know about how much the strain you are growing normally stretches during flower? If it usually stretches 2x and you have 6 foot of space between container and highest lights will go then it I would flip them at about 2 foot tall. I normally veg about 5 weeks and then flip to 12/12.

Normally one would wait until the plant reached what is known as sexual maturity for the best results in flowering this is generally around 6 weeks from seed minimum although some strains are faster or slower and you may wish to veg longer for bigger plants.

Sexual maturity in most strains include preflowering which indicates sex, along with the growing of staggered alternating internodes where the branches (and budsites) come out of where the leaf meets the stem. Many strains display their sex as a preflower before going into an actual flowering cycle once they reach sexual maturity, although this may be hindered by usage of a 24/0 light cycle and is much more prominent under 18/6 and with ample RED light. (like HPS or 2700k cfl, ect)

I personally would not put a seed grown plant into 12/12 flower until it was at least 15" to 18" min. :plant grow:

Hope this helps, and remember if growing from clone the above does not really apply and they can be flowered very small even with no veg time because they are from a mother plant who has already reached sexual maturity and genetically they are aged the same as the larger donor plant. :canabis:

I don't measure it in days, but in how tall are the plants?
Like other posters said, its about the room height.
I flip from 20/4 to 12/12 at 30 inches because my max height is only 6 feet and my stretch is usually 2x the veg height

Thanks for all of your help. My plant is about 24" and has been growing in veg state for about 70 days. Seems like I should convert to 12/12 now. Probably should have converted weeks ago. When I convert to 12/12 will my plant really stretch 2x its height now? How long does this take?

10 weeks in veg is very nice Phil... you'll be happy with the yield, I would think. Remember, less is more in bloom :D

How many set of leafs does it have if you count each internode from the bottom of the plant up?

Also the majority of the stretch in most strains occurs during the first 2 weeks of flower as the plant spaces itself out to basically make room for flower sites, it generally takes about 7 to 14 days before you will even see signs of actual flowering on the plant and it will basically just go into a growth spurt except some pure Indica strains which stay very short and compact even during flowering but this is not typical. Under very high growth rates in mediums like hydroponics with HPS lighting & Co2 enrichment this can be much faster or could be way slower under weak CFL lighting in soil and high temps and such.

You can pinch off the top of the plant a few days before initiating flower if you want to control the stretch and focus bud growth into more of a bush of bud sites instead of a dominant top cola. :canabis:

And not just any old tomatoes -- heirloom tomatoes! Tomatoes, bok choy, and snow peas, baby. The first, and even the second time that LEO busts my door down, are they ever going to feel foolish! After my civil lawsuits, I figure I could buy a penthouse condo in SF. :tiphat:

NEWBIE HELP....... 9 babies, seedling to rockwool on 4/1, all in excellent shape, ebb n flo system, ph levels exact, correct nutes, 600cfl, 3x3x4, 16 on 8 off.
Questions....

1) Sex should be showing when?
2) Should I seperate some? seems too many together, worried about males.
3) Should I switch to 12/12 now? Will that help sex them?
4) Determinating correct sex?

I have read so much diff stuff I dont know what to think anymore? I have read to look for balls...and hairs and to not mistake hairs for new leaves, and males will pollenate and ....my brain hurts!!!

Is there a certain amt of wks I should allow for each stage....veg....flower....so on n so forth. Basicly in need of Newbie for dummies book

The way to get help isn't to come crashing in to somebody else's thread, asking a million questions.

Really, the best advice I can give you at this point is, Do the research before you start germinating beans. Hope you didn't have to buy those beans, but I'm betting you did.

For a place to start you research, click on the links in my signature.
Seriously, good luck!
