the hydrofarm 6' light rail is cheaper than the 3.5' or 5' made by someone else, in fact 2 of the 6' movers are cheaper than 1 of the others, ducting can be a pain but definately worth it IMHO

The Hydrofarm chain-driven mover is a piece of shit.

Light Rail is much, much better in every way.

lr3.5 lr5 ?? where can i get a in depth info about light movers i really dont wish to make a new thread

how does the rpm matter is it better faster or slower why?

does brand name reflect on the quality built or the capacity it handles etc...

im doing a new legal grow working ground up

LR3.5 comes in 6 & 10rpm models. LR5 comes in 4rpm.

I can only give my opinion on the light rail 3.5 and the light rail 5.0 as I have both...

The 3.5 will hold up to 35-40 pounds if memory serves... The wheels that the motor "hangs from" have no bearings it's a plastic on metal wheel so a LITE application of machine oil such as 3 in 1 oil works good.

The 5.0 will hold up to 90 pounds. It's built a little better with bearings in the "hang" wheels A spring and shock mounted motor...

The 3.5 I have has been running since march 1991, I bought it used he had just replaced the all the wheels they sell a kit. As well as offer a rebuild service for those that choose that route...

Remember the drive wheel it right under the "hang rail" wheels in the center on both units... 3.5 has one drive wheel the 5.0, 2 drive wheels. So when you first set one up or after lubing the hang wheels, wipe the place the drive wheels ride with rubbing alcohol, and the drive wheels them self's just wipe with a clean cloth.

They are made in my home state of Colorado!

OK the meat of any light mover...

The different RMP's only mean how fast it will move down the track and back... The delay at both ends is to "offset" the amount of time it spends in the middle. Think of three people sitting on a couch smoking a joint, who gets the most smoke? The cat in the middle...

So when we set one up we pull out a stop watch and see how long it takes to get down the rail and we try to "delay" it at both ends so it spends equal or close to the same amount of time as the middle... The longer the rail the more delay at both ends...

I used to mount mine to a 2X4 those however are prone to warp so now I use a piece of uni strut, it's steel and lite!

Any thing else you need to know just ask... Peace and puffs

i just put one up, i like it. mine has the 10 rpm motor. itseems to go a little to fast? what i like is you can set up light closer to plants without burning. with 2 cords coming off light it is a pain to route them without hitting something. i hope it will turn my 400hps into a 600!! we will see on that.:comfort:

Did he ask if he needed one more light? Or did he ask about a light mover? The thread title clearly states LIGHT MOVER, "not please help me find more lights"... Please find someone YOU can help :thank you: it's not here obviously... :blowbubbles:

Don't worry about it being to fast... Your delay time at both ends will be less... Unless you have the extra rail then it might all even out... Time how long it takes to go one end from the other, make your delay to try and match that as close as possible. Your not trying to replicate the Sun's movement, your just trying to make it so the plants get coverage on multiple angles to hit all the leaves... The light coming and going hits the leaves at different angles, side buds get the love... :dance013: peace and puffs

Hey guys!

Fist of all; Is the asumption right that with a light mover I'm going to get aprox the same or even a better yield with less lamps?
Otherwise I'm staying with my stationary lamps.

I'm running two AeroFlow 60L side by side their're 10.5 by 3each. Between is a Walkinspace of aprox. 3 ft. I selected the Jupiter 2 instead of the lightrail because it has apparently a better engine, makes less noise and is more reliable. But I don't know what setup would be recomendable. So far I see three possible setups that would fit.

1. A single engine with a crossbar that is running a 1000w hps on every side.
(BUT: I don't know wheter the lenght of 10.5 isn't to long to run just one light
on every side)

2. Two enignes; while one is running down and the second upwards.
( might be better than nr.1 because the light is spread better.)

3. Two engines; with a pushrod each to move 2 600 hps lamps in line on every track.
(would be a solution, in case 10.5 ft are to long for just one lamp on every side)

So wich setup would you recommend?
Is 10.5 ft to long for one engine with one lamp each?
I just want a setup as good as possible. ^^
Hope my english is understandable
thx guys

For two lights you will need just one motor. You will hang light #2 from a 'trolly' which is just a hang-point on rollers. It will be moved by a push-rod that is connected to the motor.

Recap: light #1 hangs below the motor, and light #2 hangs below the trolly. The motor and trolly are connected by a rod.

I would use two 1000w lights and a Light Rail 3.5. Very simple to set up, it comes with instructions. I am running three XXXL hoods, which are fairly heavy, and move all three with a single Light Rail 3.5. It was slipping a little when first set up but now it runs smooth and silent. If I did it again I would use a Light Rail 5 for anything over 2 XXXL hoods, but the 3.5 seems to be getting the job done... barely.
