First Time Grower - I Was Given a Grown Plant - Need Some Help

Okay,
For reasons unknown, I was given a nice sized indica plant, 3ish feet or so tall. I'm using a UFO LED light, it's all I have right now. Got it in it's first week of flowering, it's doing good so far. Soil, not hydro or anything.
My question - the bottom leaves are dying, drying up, IDK if the previous grower took care of it or knew anything at all. I water it two times a day, a decent amount, seems okay there. There is definitely not enough light reaching the bottom area of the plant, I was not prepared to grow at all. Is this normal? and should I trim/cut off all the unnecessary big shade leaves at the bottom that have no buds/flowers growing on them? And leave only the branches growing colas? It would free up a lot of space for light. And if so, do I cut them at an angle like roses and such? I'm a complete newbie to the details of cannabis but understand overall certain things.
Thanks.

How big is your container your growing in ? Watering twice a day sounds a bit much... Is it drying out that fast ?

pics ?

I dont water it much. Small amounts throughout the day.
Using the logic, human metabolism is sped up with small meals, maybe being better for the plant? IDK I'm doing random cuz IDK anything about the specifics of these plants.

Hi there socksfrommars.

1) Watering two times a day is probably way too much. Let it go a few days or until its light enough that needs watering again.

2) What are you feeding it? Just plain water?

3) What container is it in, whats your soil mix?

4) If it has lots of growth that will never become anything you can trim that off... if you look in my albums under random, thats the base of my flowering plants..

Ok.

Water it really well, until you get some runoff out of the bottom. Then you will want to not water again until the soil is fairly dry. In my grow it takes a few days usually unless plants are rootbound. Then once a day in the end of flower, maybe.

A little water a few time a day, will cause the bottom leaves to get yellow, brown ends, die off. Cannibus likes it wet > dry cycles.

You can prune off lower vegetation that will not get much light. The lower parts of the plant. Pruning can stunt a plant or set it back a few days. Easy does it.

I was told the soil had the nuts in it. But idk the brand or any details on it. I water it just plan drinking water, store brand.
I cut a (16oz?) drinking water bottle in half. feed it that full half twice a day. too much? its in a regular growing container, 5gallon or less.

Hard to tell if that is too much, but it IS too often. Big difference from a 5 gallon to a 1 gallon... can you be a bit more specific...

Take a few minutes and get us a picture.

Cool. Thats what i was doing, until it runs off the bottom, thanks :) im on the right page a little. i didnt know about dry > wet cylcing. i will start that now.

so am i able to cut off shade leaves in the middle of the plant to allow the branches growing flowers more light? or will that kill or effect my plant in a neg. way?

Try water this way.. water until you get runoff out of the bottom of your container (make sure you have holes in the bottom).

Not sure what soil you are using, but it may be beneficial for you to use nutrients when you feed as well. If you want something simple, and easy at first maybe try this thread:

Yup, just pluck that lower stuff off. Those yellow leaves will come off with barely pulling on them.

Nice buds forming up there :)

cool thanks, ya their not looking to bad. not sure of the strain, smells a bit sweet/planty.
how about all those middle fan/shade leaves? some are not producing buds at all, are those able to be cut off to look more like your avatar pic? or should i just leave it cuz im super noob?

I would live and learn from this first plant, and not go cutting on it. Just pluck stuff that turns yellow or brown.

Hopefully you get addicted and grow some more :D

The plant in my avatar, i topped at the second node and LST'd the branches to the same height for 4 big buds.. Something you have to start when the plant is a seedling.
