I am looking for something that will take out chlorine mostly. I have a ppm reading of 95 on average with my tap water. Not too bad, but what do you guys think? What brands do you guys use? Thanks.

That takes out all the bad stuff? Will it take the PPM down or just get chlorine's out? Thanks for the response.

check out bulkreefsupply for ro units. Top notch quality with a price that cant be beaten. Much higher quality than ebay filters.

With a tap ppm of 95 you should be fine with just dechlorination. An RO filter would likely be a waste of water and money.

Haps, not true what so ever. Chlorine will, but not chloramine. (sp) Need a filter for chloramine.

Do you have chloramine in your water bullfrog? If not just letting your water sit out should be fine with your low TDS.

I purchased an AirWaterIce RO/DI for my saltwater aquariums almost 5 years ago and its been flawless ever since.

http://www.airwaterice.com/product/1TYPHOONIII/TYPHOON-III-AQUARIUM-RODI-75-or-100-GPD.html

My water started out at 250-400 tds depending on the time of year. After purchasing this RO/DI it immediately dropped to 0-1 for a while. At the 3 year mark I replaced all filters when my TDS had crept up to 15. At that point I also noticed my city was using chloramine so when I replaced filters I got the "Extreme T Pak" for a few dollars extra that is designed to remove chloramine. Almost 2 years later I am still under 5 TDS.

I highly recommend this company, great service and built in USA (Florida) They also have lifetime warranty on their product hardware (minus the filters which obviously go bad over time)

Sooooo expensive. My tap water is fairly clean, at only about 180ppm, so I just use a Brita filter, which reduces it to about 70ppm, and should take out most sodium hypochlorite, chloramine, and silicates.

Let your water sit in a container for 12 to 24 hours. Bubbles will form along the container wall. Tap the container to force bubbles to the surface. I drink the same water and can't taste or smell chlorine.

Oh, and, also, a quick note, chloramine will not evaporate from water, so you should check to see what form of chlorine your municipality uses for water treatment. If it's chlorine gas (unlikely, not as widely used anymore) or sodium hypochlorite (bleach), it will evaporate within about 12 hours. You can usually reduce it down to 5-6 hours if you place an airstone in it.

It is chloramine I have in my water, so the sitting and bubbling of water wont work.

I did however today go out and buy a small buy from everybody recommendations. It isn't a RO, but could be used as a pre-filter for a RO if needed. Thank you everybody for your help, seems like everybody really knows their shit. BTW - paid 75$, so a cheap fix in my eyes.

Krunchbubble - you say you had to upgrade your filters? The ones that come with it wont get chloramine out of the water? Do you know the name of this filter or where to buy?

The filter upgrade is the kdf85. On the Small Boy that I got they had already upgraded it,there was a small sticker on the box touting the carbon filter.

I read a thread about adding molasses or dirt to the water and it getting rid of chloramine. Saying 95 ppm water is pretty good is like saying a viper is kinda fast. Don't waste money on RO system, get another light.

Remember that if you start out with nothing in your water, you control what the plants get. Anything less then a r/o membrane will not remove dissolved solids. Most non-r/o "filters" are nothing less then a charcoal/carbon filter. With that being said, I highly recommend AirWaterIce too. Great company with great customer service.
