My plants are 45 days old and my ballast box has not gotten hot to the touch. Your goin vert to in a nice setup with expensive equipment. Lets see whats up. a little friendly competion to see who can get the highest g per watt ratio i know this is depends on strain alot but lets just keep it day to day and compare results. this makes my head spin.... people are trying to tell you that stuff would be better off flat mounted to a piece of steel or wood and you still just argue. natural selection at its finest
I understand all that. But you people need to understand there is 300 cfm blowing air directly on top of the coils, there is also a pc fan extracting heat from the case. 45 day old plants. That ballast ran 24 hours per day for 45 days in a row and did not get hot? So wtf? if you guys want me to use a metal box go to western union and pm me the mtcn number. Hmm 45 days and the box hasnt disfigured at all not even got a little bit hot. So now all you experts explain to me how i can run a 400watt ballast in a hard plastic housing for 45 days in a row 24/7 with absolutly no heat issues?

When this happens, there is often sparks and flame that can be contained by a metal box.

i'm only vegging with that 400w cmh.
and i don't have any "expensive" equipment in there besides my $80 blumat kit.
everything else in there is reused materials.
pretty much everything else was laying around.

Nobody cares what your plants look like or will weigh in 60 days.
People are just worried about your safety and others who might follow

Many people on here build their own ballasts for whatever reason. They just don't use
plastic housings because of the safety aspect.

Im not a dick. But i wasnt trying to teach nobody how to build a ballast box. I wasnt reccomending to anyone that they build it. And i never said this was the safest ballast box in the world. But its effective its not overheating at all. I got defensive cause its like 13 on 1 in here. granted not all of you are like that but some of the people here are arrogant. Im just doin what i have to do to survive.It has nothing to do with my edick or anyting. I was just tryin to show you all im not new to this. Some of you in here know what its like to get pinched and start at zero. You gotta use what you got. If I die in a blaze of fire from growing pot. Ill be going out the way i wanted to. Dont forget this is my thread so if you wanna come in laughing at me im gonna hate on you back. To simpin. My ballast doesnt look healthy but your plants dont look healthy either.

i found that an old battery charger box makes a great ballast box for my 150w hps. not sure if a 400w would fit in but the coil that came out of the charger is a bout 2x the size as a 150w ballast.

Just curious - what happens if your fan fails? I believe you when you say that it's running cool right now, but I don't see a backup plan for when your 300 cfm becomes 0 cfm. At that point I think you'll have an inferno.
. Its under constant supervision. there is not ever a time where i dont see them every 10 min. It has an extraction fan. Trust me. I will here it when a 300 cfm squirell cage locks up. Furnace fans are built to have long lives and pc fans the same. Not to mention the two other fans in the room. Trust me im sitting here with a blunt in one hand and a fire extinguisher in the other. I aint leavin till these are done. And when they are ill be able to buy a few nice 1k ballasts. Im a medical user and i need this to keep goin i dont really have a choice.

thank you kannubis for the kind words. Trust me im not proud of this ballast but its gotta be done right now. After the grow is done it will just be used as a simple toolbox again And some day i will look back and laugh on it. All of the people were upset. Be upset about the oppressed society that we live in today that forces people to do questionable things just to survive.

For less than the cost of a single pizza, certainly for far less the cost of an internet connection, one can get a metal tool box, ammo box or any number of safer materials to work with.
