How could one put a dimmer on a timer? (for a fan at night)

I do not think they are called dimmers but what I mean is...

You know those dials that dim/reduce or open up and give full power to fans? (what the hell are they called anyhow)?

Well is there a simple enough way to set it up so that a fan runs at 100% for 12 hours a day and say 50% for the other twelve?

The only simple fix I can think of is to have two different (intakes for example) and have one on at 100% for twelve hours on a timer and then when it turns off, have another come on at 50%... but who wants to run two lines? Not me...

Electrical is what I must learn more about - I otherwise consider myself pretty clever, would appreciate any ideas or leads :tiphat:

It is a variable resister. If you use an ohm meter to measure the resistance needed to achieve your desired fan speed, day and night speed. You can buy individual resistors and wire your own day/night 2 speed timer.
You said you don't know electrical, but you also said that you are clever. Time to learn.

get a thermostat contorller instead of a fan speed router... blam done exactly what u want..

u can set day and night temps tmp-dne from cap... so if u set day to 85 and it hits 85 u also set another nob for 3-5-7 or 3 numbers like that, they mean how far it will change it till it turns fan off... so if u set it on 85 and 3 for day, it will drop temps to 82 and wont come back on till 85.. works great.

why dont you put it on a thermostat? for about the same price what your after you could get a all singing temp/humidity enviroment controler you can also get a full co2/monitor controler aswell. search for "evolution fan speed controller"
cost about £150 if you want the co2 monitor its about £200-£300 on top

:yeahthats
These things are awsome. NOTE: If you have large fans these units will only run 1. I had to get two of them. one for intake and one for exhaust. I love how they control the fan speed depending on how close you are to your set temp.

You can make a relay switch and connect 2 speed controllers to it , put the relay on a timer and it will switch between the speed controllers without the need for 2 fans .

you can do the same with the climate control speed controllers to ,

this has all ways amazed me how all specialised climate and speed controllers never seem to have a night time setting , the comps that make them rely on that fact that if set to 25c at night the fans will all ways be on the lowest setting because the heat will never reach 25c at night ,

i would like to see a climate controller have a day and night setting and turn the intake of at night instead of it running on its lowest setting , this is more for growers living in a colder climate country ,

the amount of electric most growers are waisting is unreal , the battle to have enough heat using eaters and radiators whilst the fans are going at night pisses people of imo

sms.com make good climate controllers . the temp probe registers quite quick where as most others i tried seem to take ages , all so they run very quite compare to other brands and strait speed controllers
