Time for a grow....

I love the organic forum, but i dont even find myself here anymore. Its all about questions and not enough organic buds being grown.

I'll be keeping track of my perpetual setup. Right now she's nothing special, but gotta start somewhere.

I will be growing in a Secret Jardin DR40 using a 250w HPS. Temps arent too bad never going above 83*. I run a perpetual setup from seed at the moment so i still have some cloning and selection to do. I only have 3 plants in at the moment. Waiting for the babies to get better.

Everything is in the soil so i don't have to feed typically. My seedlings are going through some troubles due to a new soil mix and me being dumb and lazy.

If you are using biochar make sure to soak it overnight in a nutrient rich mixture. I use fish hydroslate and sea kelp. This time the bucket i was using didn't cover the biochar with the mix so only a little of it soaked. Now i'm struggling with nitrogen deficiencies. I do the same thing before using mulch.

Anyways these pics aren't the greatest but they'll do till tomorrow....

There will be 9 plants in the chamber at the end....

Yeah the char can be tricky if it isn't burnt low temp and pre-treated. I found a fungal based compost tea was best in my situation but the problem I had was that the char was too basic. no problems since then, that musta been close to a year ago.

Onya for posting a grow, I only grow tomatoes so I can't :)

Hey guys, i'm glad your interested to sit along!! I figured where else should i start my new thread.

Capt.- Unfortunately last year i had lost my worm bin due to ants. I checked it today and it was a living organism very nice, and moist. tons of life but only a couple of worms. Doesnt look like any EWC for me :(. I was thinking earlier today that it was exactly what i needed. It sucks having no worms. I've tried light doses of fish and kelp with no luck...Sometimes it gets real depressing being a grower...

Gonna get an ACT going since there is NO source for EWC except at the hydro store(YUCK!!)... I really wish i had some compost left. We make it from mangoes and fallen leaves; it turns out to be amazing. If it wasnt so hot where i live i'd try and build an outdoor worm bed...

Schwagg- I like to pack my plants in there. Not only can i run a large variety, but i dont need to veg as long. This is what makes my small space work out for me. Big plants would be too hard.

They're 4"x4"x10" pots and i figure i can pull about a 10grams to a half per pot. With 9 pots that leaves me at almost a QP at a minimum. I figure i'll be getting about a 14g per plant compared to previous results so i should be at. Only time will tell. These first plants in there are kinda small. I would hope to get up to VG's level but dont see it happening in my small space.

On another note I hit all the ladies in there with some Bubba Kush x Blockhead pollen. These will be the upcoming seeds ELE x Prophet, Ancient Afghan x Prophet, Afghan/Trainwreck x Prophet. Depending upon how many seeds i get, Seedbay may see some donations as well as good friends...

Fista- This was completely my fault and i knew it was gonna happen. But i was too lazy because flipping that tarp over and over gets very tiring even for a youngin like me.

My mix is like this
2cu ft. of peat
3cu ft. store bought compost(best stuff they had, lots of fine wood , looked good)
.5cu ft of biochar
Half gallon of powdered kelp, azomite and zeolite

I know what i did wrong but this mix was pretty much what i consider a ghetto mix. But soaking proved to be extremely critical. It looked like it sucked the chlorophyll straight out of my seedlings.

Its terrible so I will be starting over with it. Good soil is like bread dough. Maybe i'll just get some worms and throw them in there to do some work.

Moth- Thanks for stopping in

looks good bb. count me in :lurk:

you're right about the lack of growing threads in this forum. i've been keeping kinda quiet on my first grow but maybe the organic forum is the place to share it.

I think its time for a change guys! Every other sub section is full of grow threads. Time for a sub-section for all the Q&A's haha.

Lets get down to the real business, the organic buds and how people do it. I see way too many chem people talking shit when they dont understand. We gotta show them its not just hippy BS.

I stopped coming here as much because i got tired of the typical questions. No offense to my friends, but this side pretty much just became a straight questions and answer section for newb's.

I love being a part of the OFC because I am an Organic Fanatic, so why not show the people how we do.

My main thing is i grow from seed most of the time. I dont really have space for mother plants an cuttings really. I'll be able to keep like 4-6 mother plants hopefully, and go perpetual with 3 plants every 3-4 weeks...In the end i want to get as close to an o per plant.

checking out those new square fabric pots. If i can fit 9, their mine. With blumat's fabric pots are amazing.

Word man!

Plants are looking excellent! I love the sound of Ancient Afghan. Dope names make dope strains. I roll 250HPS as well, I'm eager to see what your pull is! And what my pull is! Check out my Power Kush thread in this forum if you're interested.

Grow the best bud ever!

i'll be sure to check it out.

Ancient Afghan is a circa 84-85 Afghan from N. Cali. Its from a breeder here at IC Steele Savage of Grindhouse Medical Seeds. From what i see so far in this one girl is its very unique. Not your typical afghan. Has a sour, spiciness, earthiness thats almost catpissy/hazey.

I have 9 more seeds to go through and those are next up after another project The One x BMR. So many seeds to make so little time...

Just so you guys know, if your in desperate need like I am for EWC, you can go to a bait shop. I will be going there tomorrow to get some castings to use in various ways. i'll just throw the worms in a bin something.

BB88,

Why not get some african nightcrawlers and keep them outside?

I'll put up shots of my grow once I have lower plant numbers. I don't feel like you do about planting seeds (aka helping newbs), and the chem heads spouting off makes for teachable moments.

I think the sub-forum should be for grows, and let the newbs ask what they will on the main one.

those are not the same worms, you wont get as good results. spend some money and buy real worms for composting. think of it this way, 20$ for some worms now = 20$ of castings continually as long as you keep the bin happy. plus the amount of worms you get at the bait shop vs what you would get if you actually got real worms is a rip off. 20-30 worms from the bait shop will take a LONG time to multiply to good numbers. now start out with a lb( about 1000 worms) and youll be rolling in the castings in no time.

Jay while you do have a great point, the meaning of the statement was just to get some fresh worm castings since there are no sources locally. Organic growing is not what is done down here and the last time i saw a bag of EWC was about 8 years ago.

I also thought that red wigglers were the same composting species? I figured if anything, i can throw the few worms i do get for my $3 in each pot. I have worms that have lived multiple seasons in my pots regardless of their size. They stay within close proximity to the Blumat Jr. Sometimes they work their way out so i just throw them back in.

I am going to be starting a new bin soon and i will buy by the pound. I was really hoping for finding a place local

Heres some pictures after pollinating plants last night.

Ancient Afghan or Trainwreck/Afghan girl. Sexy leaf pattern on her. I think its the trainwreck one though, she has the notorious skinny stems of trainwreck.

Jay, some bait shops actually stock the wigglers. It depends on the fish. There is a famous fly called the san juan worm. It imitates the "wiggle" of a stuck wiggler. I'm pretty sure the red wiggler got its name from fishermen.

By me all shops sell the red wiggler type. Nightcrawlers can be found in the soil and theres ways of making them come up. In all honesty i think i can get a bait shop down here to give me a better deal on worms than anybody else. They have their own huge bins.
