What's new

A is 4 PiMp's n00b cabinet grow

I currently have them on a stack of books (on the very bottom) with cd cases on top

EDIT: They are now between 2-3 inches from the lights now, anyone have any thoughts on the seedling that is refusing to grow?

Im thinking maybe the soil is packed too tight in the container?

Another little update, today is day 17 of 18/6 and I decided to take some more pictures:

Remember that little sprout in the green beans can (#5)? I decided to transplant it tuesday afternoon and the next day when I came home from work I noticed that it grew a little bit (probably a few cm's but it still grew) and then it stopped.

Whats the deal? I transplanted it into the same mix like the others, with the same ratio of perlite to soil and it grows a few centimeters, then stops growing all together.

Right after I helped myself to a little bowl session when I got home from work today I started thinking, "what if the current light schedule isn't what it wants?"

I am using bagseed, and the seeds I used are from different bags bought over the years, could it be possible that 18/6 isn't what the sprout wants and possibly 12/12 (or any other schedule) could be just what it needs?

I don't want to pull it out just yet, I just want to know whats going on

Are you using the styrofoam cups as reservoirs for the red cups? If so, I would quit. They can go for a couple of days in a solo cup at that size before needing a watering.

Also, take a look at your soil in your pics vs. what my soil looks like.

I dont see any perlite in your mix unless you bought black perlite lol
Maybe my old eyes are just failing me.

I just layered the perlite in the cup, or should I have just straight up actually MIXED it with the soil? lol this is embarrassing.

I just can't get this growing thing right, when I get home from work today I will have to fix that as soon as the lights come back on

I think the fire risk comments were when A had the actual bulb fittings resting on the books. Fire-tastic! I'd raise them up more if you can though for sure. CFLs aren't hot usually so get -em as close as you could get your hand with out it feeling hot.

Yeah mix the perlite all in with the soil. And trust your instincts (Luke, stretch out your feelings etc), if you think the soil is packed too tight it probably is. You want it packed enough to keep the plant from falling over and that's it. More air space in there the better. I wouldn't worry too much about the little un, if it catches up a bit and adds the bud then great but concentrate on the bigger ones. Looking a lot better though! :)

Thanks, I just got home from work now i'm going to wait for the lights to come on in about 30-35 minutes and then i'll pull all the containers out, dump out the soil/perlite, and mix it all up and put them back in (and water them too)

Also i will drop the newly germinated seeds (bagseeds of course) in the soil and finally flip the lights!:dance013:

You'll only make mistakes once, that's why it's called experience. I've made mistakes I'd have trouble admitting here.

I know I know, I watered them last saturday and now they are starting to droop and the soil is starting to crack so I figure they might be a lil bit thirsty
Droop also occurs from over-watering. Your soil looks pretty dense and there are no air pockets from perlite. Though the surface is cracked, it may still be saturated deeper in the soil. You should be able to tell if it needs watering by lifting the cup and judging the weight.

I typed that message in a rush out the door, I forgot to mention that it was only 2 that were starting to droop, #2 started to droop around wednesday afternoon, then #1 this morning when I checked the cab

EDIT: Ive been thinking it over and im starting to realize maybe waiting for a female and then taking clones before switching to 12/12 might be a better idea so I think thats what I will do.

What kind of SOIL are you using?!!!

fox farm planting mix

took another pic tonight, i got bored yesterday and decided to move them around a bit

day 22 of 18/6

the 2 biggest ones #1 in the front and #3 in the back right's cotyledon leaves are turning yellow slightly today

and the leaves arent drooping on #1 in the front, i didnt fix the tiny branch on top of the paperclip before the pic because I spun the container around for everybody, theres one on #3 in the back as my ghetto attempt at an LST

Your plants are nice and green. I'm not sure how much bud you'll get with two cfls but you're doing a great job vegging. Best wishes.

Thank you, those 2 lights are just the ones that I am using only for veg, i have 4 60W 2700k cfls that i was going to put in whenever I finally make my mind up on when to make the switch to 12/12.

I guess is enough of them turn out to be female (maybe 2 or 3) then i'll switch the lights and let everybody else play catch up, i don't know, there's so many different ways to do this!

so i finally decided to flip the lights on friday, today I checked the cabinet when the lights turned on and I noticed that one of them grew at least another inch or 2 overnight!

day 27 total, day 2 of 12/12

Ive got some seedlings off to the side of the cab on top of the box with the thermometer closer to the lights, you can't see them in the picture.

I was thinking about transplanting the biggest 4 into larger containers next week, i've got some 1/2 gallon containers laying around so yea..

I made the mix with the flowering nutes already (just to get it over with) and I tested the ph, is 7.5 too high?

how did you test the pH? test the water going in, the run it through the soil and test what comes through.

7.5 is extremely high, it should be around 6.5 for soil and 5.5 for hydro (not sure on exact hydro number)

I just mixed the nutes with the water and tested that (I haven't fed it to the plants)

Fortunately I decided a few weeks ago to go out and buy some pH Up and pH Down though, 7.5 is too much?
