Michigan vs Maine: where'd you rather grow and live?

Moved to Maine from away...Love it here.
If you do move here, have a job already or be an extremely handy person. The labor market is very tight despite the relatively low unemployment. There aren't many jobs, but there also aren't many people (although don't be surprised when 500 people show up to a job fair for a few dozen jobs). Maine ranks dead last in the US for being business friendly but the new govenor is trying to change that. There still remains loads of regulations, taxes, licenses, and bureacratic hurdles to wade through if you plan on setting up any kind of business here.
The weather is great...don't believe the myths about the harsh winters. You get used to them pretty quick and soon you'll think 45degrees is open window weather. Summers can't be beat (when we get them).
Don't expect to move here and set up any kind of commercial op unless you already have an "in" or are scary charismatic. Natives can easily spot the people from away.

i moved from washington state about 7 years ago for a job. found a home and a wife and never looked back. michigan is very affordable, almost a quarter the price of seattle's, bay area, southern california. that's if you're in a metro area like me. i think the culture's more interesting out here. but that's me and stuff i like. peeps are certainly nicer here and especially to people from out of state. there's assholes everywhere though. yes the girls are fatter but i like them that way, they just fuck better with that extra weight. nothing keeps you warm like a chubby chick. MI is not for everybody though, i think it took me a few years to adjust and get settled in.

People up here in rural towns watch closely, it doesn't take too long for people to get an idea what your up to....I'd only suggest moving up here if you have some good friends involved or you want to move up here regardless of the MJ.

That being said ME is a great place to live, and the winters are bearable if you like to get out in the snow or like to read books by the woodstove. Come Febuary when the suns out and there is no wind, 20F, low humidity...it doesn't get any better. Also if you have problems with bugs forget about it.
The MMJ scene isn't taking off like people expect....that profiteer from Berkley who got 4-5 of the dispensary contracts can't get any funding to set up shop, the people setting up in Auburn are CLUELESS about growing and seem to think theres no herb around thats of "medical grade". It's questionable whether we even have the population base to make the dispensaries be profitable, not to mention there are very few MMJ patients to support the dispensaries that want to charge 340 a zip, beacause they are growing it themselves...
but I'm not complaining, it could be worse.

Well shit, I used to live in one and now I live in the other. IT IS MORE EXPENSIVE TO LIVE IN MAINE. Without a doubt, the only homes I found that compare to the prices in Michigan are homes so far out you will drive forever to get anywhere. And those homes are not very nice, usually. If you have a little bit of cash the homes in Maine are spectacular, but you can find homes just as nice in Northern Michigan especially. Charlevoix, Traverse City, and those bigger cities up north are super nice to live somewhat near. The ganja scene in each is great, MI has definitely blew up with the Medi. scene, Maine has always had a lot of growers and prized varieties. In Michigan up until the med. laws passed growers were few and far between especially when you got away from Ann Arbor and D town. And it is true 99 plants is a class D charge in Maine,typically this means a fine, but I have seen people get moderate time for it, and medi patients get the same dry amount as in Michigan but only 6 plants. Most people in Maine are growers not custies, if you want that MI is the place to be. However people love life both places. Someone said MI has better beer and I can vouch for that, FOUNDERS. Plus there is definitely more of a music scene in MI. Also you will notice it takes forever to get anywhere when you live in Maine, and for some reason everyone you know lives and hour away at least, that is if you don't live in Portland. Something most people don't realize is that with your dry limit, you can cut plants, hang them and not manicure them, and they will still count as one of your plants. The systems in these states require you to do a staggered harvest not all at once, and you just cut one and still have eleven growing, but technically you still have twelve because it is not processed yet. However you would only cut off and manicure small parts as needed. Don't replace the plant until it is all manicured and there is only 2.5 ounces left. Not sure in MI but in ME you can have seedlings or veg plants as long as they are under twelve inches tall, along with your flowering plants. Whoa that turned into a longer response than I had planned, hope this helps. PEACE.

just moved to me 7 months ago, grew up in nj lived in ny vt co and been many other places. i got to say i mis my friends being farther away but already met sum reall hip good peeps without even tapping in to the trendy spots down south, i already get depressed in winter no matter where i live. but i may very well die here in maine. its rock solid and has it all, liberal laws good folks the ocean, mountains hiking biking fishing hunting and leads the east in frisbee golf, i cant even list all it has to offer. quite simple stop leaning on others and find a way to make yur own dam living. see ya soon .peace!! p.s. my wife isn't a fuk-tard and has had four decent job offers ( up north). Took one starting pay for 15.00 an hour full benees. u cant find a job if yur dumb and unmotivated. the couch rarely finds jobs for u, so u might have to get off it to find one

I had to suck it up and stay here in Ca. Depending on what kind of home your looking for. I just finished closing on a manufactured home. It's old but we have everything here. I got a 1536sf home for 30K. It is expensive to live here but all my people are here as well. Its not easy moving somewhere you know no one or how to get into the scene. Good luck where ever you go.

You can still walk in off the street and dispense meds to dispensaries in Michigan? Wow. I assumed it was like Colorado by now.

if u know how to grow u can make a living anywhere,,,and every big city is shitty or at least has shitty areas just be smart be underground and stick to a few trusted people to deal with,,and MIchigan is nice just the lil bit i have seen,,,,peace

Funny how most people mention Maine is the better place to move and grow, then literally in the next sentence say or agree with someone who says "but it's basically impossible to get connected in moving any weight up there. It's a very closed off subculture."
