What is the best 1000w MH bulb for the money?

So I just got a 1000w MH setup and looking for the best bulb for the money. Is the Hortilux Blue the way to go? Or do you recommend another brand?

Horti 1k Blue is sweet and I love mine (got them super cheap)...but at normal MSRP there's better bang for the buck out there. (ie. Sunmaster)

The horti blue burns in the horizontal position only. Awesome lamp, so freakin blue that when I leave the veg room, my vision takes on a pinkish/red hue for a few minutes. Keeps the nodes super tight, promotes very vigorous growth. Very nice.

Yeah the Horti Blue is +/- 15 degrees horizontal only. whodair, I totally lucked out and picked up six of them @ $90 each from an acquaintance who had to quickly strip down and part-out supplies. On one hand I feel bad for his security breach, on the other hand...I'm glad. Does this make me a bad person? haha

How's the sylvania treating you? At $50 to boot...what a steal!!

Thanks for the info everybody! I think I'm going to have to pick some up pretty soon. Not sure if I am going to dish out the money for the Hortilux Blue yet.

I doubt I would buy EYE Hortilux again unless the lamp that I just had break after half a year gets replaced under warranty. That's only like 10% of its rated life, and the base portion fell apart inside the outer envelope. (I used Super Blue, though, which is probably the most susceptible to mechanical failure.)

I replaced it with the smaller size (BT37) of Sylvania Metalarc 1000W and I think the CRI is not far off, despite only having one arc tube in the envelope and not a complementary HPS one as well. In fact, the CRI is now good enough that I see greenish light escaping my spare room grow -- from the MH's non-neutral-white bouncing off the blue walls.

u referring to that whitish ceramic like coating on the end of the arc tube? that stuff flakes off under normal use... think it's from the constant heat/cold of running the bulb. dunno, but it's not a defect. horti says it doesn't effect the bulb's output.

Nah, it's proper fucked. I didn't even notice this outer envelope rupture until you prompted me to take a picture. Good old poisonous lamp-internals...

Get a set (for both veg and flower) of Horti's and the extra expense will be replaced your first harvest.
