Best 1k HPS Flowering Bulb out there?? price not a factor..........

hey so i finally wanna upgrade my bulbs ive been running the last 3 runs on some random mismatched bulbs that came with the lights when i bought them.

i cant help but think that maybe i get more airy nugs than usual because of low lumens...

so whats the best possible bulb to buy? one friend said i should get blue spectrum HPS...another says to get red spectrum HPS. which is best for flowering??

fresh bulbs homie ... i just plugged in a fresh low price bulb next to a 6 month old hortilux... the fresh cheapo was so much brighter !! the horti had 2000 hours on it, they are rated for 24000hrs ...

keep it fresh playa !!

All things being equal I seen a 15% increase in yields when I switched to AgroSun Reds and will never go back now. But....the cheapos are fine....I'd just change them after a couple runs so you have one less thing to worry about.

Also, I'm not sure what your setup is but I'd start with a cut that you know will produce rock hard nugs. Then you will have a better chance of figuring out if it's your enviroment, nutes, etc that are the issue. Barring that I've found that high temps, ph issues (leading to nute lock outs), and not enough light are the main causes of loose buds.

I'm about to buy a normal hortilux bulb, i've found the cheapo generic bulbs dont carry the full bred spectrum some plant specific bulb companies put into them

I think hortilux bulbs are good enough. Its more just about buying quality and changing them often.

I would say the ushio 1000s are redder/oranger then the horti super hps. imo..... If money isn't a problem check the super blue bulbs to get that full sprectrum going that both mh/hps in one. Ushio also has one that's 50 bucks cheaper.

Can't beat fresh bulbs for sure. I've used cheap ass bulbs and had good results. Just bought an Ushio 1000w because I heard there better matched for use with digital ballasts, don't know if thats a factor for you.

Stoney, I think you got a legit point there. Also, they put out 110k lumens vs 145k for the hort. eye super hps. I know that lumens are not everything, and that par is important also, but lack of penetration and 30% less lumens, and double the price. I will stick with the super hps, thank you.

The new digilux are probably the new standard for digital ballasts. 155,000 lumens and the spectrum looks good. They can "hot start" and produce full light almost immediately. Like switching on a house lamp.

Haven't used them, but they'll be my next purchase. Run bulbs two or three runs typically.

I'm not recommending any particular lamp but I do recommend avoiding any that are "green" as in land fill friendly (no mercury exct.) as they tend to be 10 to 20% down on light compared to the regular lamps.

IMO.....

HORTILUX DEFINITELY.

The "Super HPS" is best for yield alone.

The " Super Blue " is great if you want to use one bulb all the way through and/or to keep the ladies from stretching. I am just finishing my first run with this bulb and it definitely kept my nodes tighter.

the super blue will cut yields vs the reg horti did a 3 lights over a 4'x8' flood table with the blue in the middle and at harvest the canopy had a v shape with noticeably smaller and and less bud development in the middle under the blue
