I just converted my set up to vertical this round to try it out and WOW is it bright in there, TOO BRIGHT! I am running 600s right now and don't see how anyone could possibly work in the room with the lights on. How do you do it? I definitely don't want to compromise my vision. I am going to re read the sticky above for some tips I guess, but with that intensity I don't see myself rocking vertical for more this one round.

I use these - cheap and effective, and much safer than sunglasses:

Yesterday, because it was going to burn me, sooner or later
and it was always 'in my eyes'.. I hung a cool tube vertically.
Bigh difference.. I do not know what the plant sees but I see much less light...
It will come down tonight and a 2 gallon bucket shade used on the neked bulb..

I wear welding goggles when I go in, http://www.harborfreight.com/2-piece-welding-goggles-set-35711.html

but also need reading glasses to acuratly 'see' the plants, cant see
shit WO the reading glasses... any nanner might look like???
I might not see them at all...

I like bright! LOL!!

yeah we have a couple 1k's on a mover and I agree it was crazy bright compared to horizontal. I worry about putting stuff over or on the bulb due to bulb life (doesn't it have issues having light bouncing straight back against itself?) but do want those oakley style welding shades. Look good BUT don't look like big ass welding flip ups lol.

Try 16KW of it in one room ;) I used to wear shades but then you cant see the plants well enough (color, mites, etc) so you end up taking them off all the time. They also make it hotter so I sweat more with shades on. now I go in and hold my hands up to block the two closest bulbs at a time from my vision, works pretty well and still lets me look around.

I have a 90w CFL mounted on the ceiling in my grow room. Yank the chain and...bingo! More than enough light to work with.

Always raise the lights before I go in there as well.

there is a sticky in vert forum regarding eye damage. i use goggles or my 8kw leaves me seeing tracers for a day. i also have started wearing long sleeves, because i couldnt take the irony of getting skin cancer from my growroom. (and them fukers burn if you touch em)

if you're like me, you might have more eyebolts than IQ points - one of these next to the door comes in handy

it is a pain in the ass to not be able to see your babies in the same tones/detail as you're used to - i got in the habit of rocking the 'Angry Librarian/Sleepy Grandpa' gaze over the top of the shades. w/ your head turned down to accomplish said feat, you don't end up too blinded when you need to inspect stuff
