i can relate my own personal experience. i wasted years of effort and suffered low esteem from my peers because i ventured out on my own with my own concoctions. once i started following well prescribed techniques (many available here as threads) my results climbed dramatically. if you are new try taking some advice from those down the process a little earlier and further than u and your trip will most likely be far more enjoyable. at least that's my own hard learned personal lesson.

works well as an ammendment, id say as much as 25 % of the soil is good

mushroom compost imo should be used or not use depending on the source, way too many commercial mushroom farmers are tossing nasty chemicals and loads of chemical urea to "speed up" the compost process. this is after they usually treat the initial compost with a whole number of things to sterilize and make sure there mushrooms succeed. that is also not even taking into account where that initial compost came from. antibiotic fed cows? de wormed horses? even worse?

its not hard to make your own compost, ill let you all in on a little secret that the microbes to 90% of the work. in the end you don't have to buy it, you know where it came from, you know whats in it, its easy to make a lot( just harvested 5 yards of compost the other day, took me one month to make, didn't turn it once, didn't cost me a penny).

that being said there are organic mushroom farmers out there who have really good compost for garden use. but i think they are few and far between.

plants i grew did not like it. dont ask me why, i dont know anything anyway. i tried varying amounts, like one out of 4 parts, 5 parts etc. i threw the rest out. got it from a farmers supply store in a bag. dont know the source but it blew. the more i put in the mix the less the plants liked it.

Mainly because I've had far too much to drink but it's my personal opinion that 'mushroom compost' is both neither and totally worthless for the most part.

Re-read JayKush's post.
