275w HPS Cabinet: 3 Strains!

Hi everyone! My cabinet is almost complete. I sized my DIY carbon scrubber yesterday (Fits nice!) and cut the peices for the air filter in the false bottom.I still need to grab some pantyhose and pack the scrubber with carbon, get the air filter sorted and clean up the utility room wiring. I should be able to do this in the next couple days.

Here are the specs for my cab:

Flower room:

-30'' Wide x 46'' Tall x 20'' Deep
-275w Digital HPS (with cool tube)
-(6) x 2 3/8'' Passive intake holes in false bottom
-(2) x 80mm PC Fans

Veg Room:

-16'' Wide x 24'' Tall x 20'' Deep
-(4) x 26w 6500k CFL's
-(4) x 2 3/8'' Passive intake holes in false bottom
-(1) x 80mm PC Fan

Utility Room:
-16'' Wide x 17'' Tall x 20'' Deep
-Houses the 400w/275w/250w Digital ballast, scrubber, fan controller, timer, powerbar, fan adapters etc.

How it works:

A 4'' Vortex fan (mounted externally) draws air through a 10.5'' long DIY scrubber in the utility room from both veg and flower rooms. Air is drawn through the cool tube in the flower room and a 4'' hole with light trap in veg room.

I decided to go with a few different strains this time. I will choose the one I like this best this round (based on yeild, vigor, resistance, taste, smell etc) and go the next round with that strain alone.

My strains:

-Lemon Skunk (Fem)- Green House Seeds

-AMS (Fem)- Green House Seeds

- '10' -(M/F?)- A local grower passed a few of these seeds to me. He says hes been working on it for 22 years. The original seed came from Vietnam and brought back here and mixed with some of the strong island genetics here in B.C. among other strains. He kept records of all the crosses he'd done over the years but I dont have them. He says it's a little more sativa (60-40), dosent stretch too much, and packs a punch. Finishes 8-9 weeks. Good indoor or out. VERY good resistance to pest/disease.

Of all the strains Im most excited about the '10' . Im going to grow them up in the 16 oz cups, transplant to 1.5 gal pots and move them into the flower room to bask in the 250w MH for a while. Ill Lst and take some cuttings from each before flipping to 12/12 and switching over to 275w HPS.

Well thats it for now, this is my first grow thread so I hope everything goes smoothly. Im happy with everything so far and should get the finishing touches done soon so Ill post some new updates and pics soon! I pulled 3 0z's with the 'Cheese' in this cab with a 250w last time, but ventilation is tighter, things are cleaner this time, so I hope to break that. As long as the '10' is a female, its achievable. Stay tuned!

PEACE!

So here's a sneek peek of my cabinet. I still have to deal with cleaning up the utility room, so I'll save that picture for later. I tried to make this cab as clean as I could, with as little obstructions as possible. I better hurry up and get finishing because my beans have popped and already in the Veg chamber.
Hope you enjoy. Once the cab is totally complete Ill give more thorough picture's of everything. The weather has been very cold and dry here so my humidity is a little low (22-35'ish) but besides that, all is well.

Peace!!

Sgt...Thanks!:)
Yeah Im not overly concerned with the RH. In the 20's is a little low, but Id rather have it there than fight it above 60. Ive got an old salad container ( The see-through type that you get with mixed salad greens) and am thinking about building a seed dome. An RH in the 20's in flower is ok but I think the seedling like it a bit more humid. Ill put that on my ever growing 'to-do list'

Thanks for stopping in! The ballast i have is a LUMATEK 400w digital ballast. The settings on the ballast are: 250w, 275w,400w, and 'superlumens' which I believe gives you an increase of up to 30%. I have trialed my cabinet on the 400w setting and with the fan on full blast I can manage my temps below 80'. However, the noise from my Vortex is a little bit loud. Ive decided to go with the 275w for now, and Ill see how it goes. You can operate both MH and HPS lamps. Peace!

how loud is the fan? what would you compare it too????

Looking for something similar...think it would cool a 250 watt HPS fine in dimensions almost identical or do you have any recommendations to pass forth?? where did you order it??

Big Twin- The fan I have is the 4'' 177cfm VORTEX. I didnt have my veg side going last run, had the fan mounted inside the cab, ran it during the summer with inside temps fair to high and had to have the fan controller at about 60-75% but it handled the 250w just fine. Depending on your ambient temps or where your drawing your intake form are cool enough this should work for you as well. I bought mine from the grow shop here. It wasnt cheap by any means, around 165$+tax:laughing: How stealth are you trying to be?

im trying to run stealth.....my dimensions are almost identical to your flowering cab...i will also be using a cool tube. how loud is that fan? i planned on placing mine at the top similarly...if so, i could add something on the exterior like a rubber made to stealth it so the fan isnt protruding...then i can add insolation to muffle it...would this suffice? whats the dB?

Not sure of the DB rating however if you run it on full with no fan controller it is pretty loud. It is not so much the fan that is loud but the air that is moving. Are you going to use a carbon filter? If so, where are you going to put it? The PANASONIC Whisper fan is the quietest that I've heard of. The set up and style are different, and you need more of a 'carbon tray' but they come in a range of CFM's.

so is the panasonic my best bet? yes i will be using a carbon scrubber? powerful enough to keep away my heat? also, how can i use that type of fan system for a cool tube and carbon scrubber?

Hi guys,

I got some work done on the cab today. I figured out what I would do for my intake filters and cleaned the utility room wiring. For the intake filters I wanted to make them cheap, easy to change out a few times through each grow, and look semi- proffesional. Here's what I came up with. Im sure it's been done before, but if this is new to anyone I hope its helpful.

First I went to the 'Dollar Mart' and got long zip-ties(cable ties), and some dark green scrubbing pads.

3.50$

Next I went to the hardware store and got (10) 2'' Black PVC 90' elbows.

22.00$

When I got home and got it ready this is what I had:

Then I cut the scrubbing pads down a bit to make it easier, and ran them under water for a few seconds to clean of any overseas factory toxins. After letting it dry, I wrapped it tightly around the PVC elbow, securing it with a zip-tie.

Next, I took the scissors and trimmed off any extra pad, making sure to leave a 1/4'' at least around the edge. Its important that the ziptie is tight, and your pad it stretched over the edges cleanly.

I made sure to cut my holes in the false bottom to the EXACT size. ( A 2'' pipe is actually 2 3/8'' in circumferance.) This allowed my to friction fit the elbows in place with no leaks. I actually had to jimmy wiggle them in so I know they're snug.

And a finished look from the back, underneath

I was in the work mode so I cleaned the utility room. I still need to pack my scrubber. Ive been procrastronating.

So, thats it. The plants are getting underway now so I'll upload some pics and post em tonight.

Peace!

And last but not least, the 'AMS' @ 4 days

To make it easy on me, Im going to just call this week 1. Ill post up new updates at least once a week through to harvest. Im going to do a nice detailed post on training as well as mixing soil.
