What's new

possible banana sacks!?

alright, so some slightly bad news i think.. I need everyones opinion on what i can do here..

I have spotted what i think are male reproductive organs on some otherwise female flowers. The flowers are 4 weeks developed..
i would say a rough 50/50 mix of ind/sat in the genetics, a few seeds were found in an otherwise seedless bag. all planted and became female.

now, 4 weeks into flower with everything looking great i see bananas start to poke out. im almost positive they are male gametangia..

SOO.. What should i do?

let them continue to develop, while picking off those i can.. ?

will the seeds actually be "feminized" or will they too have hermaphroditic tendencies like these?

how long before the sacks start to disperse pollen?
should i wait until just before then and cut some flowers early?

what have you done in the past and what do you suggest based on that?!??

Thanks!

Take a photo if you can it'll help a LOT in proper diagnosis. If you are 4 weeks into flower pollen may be just about to let go.

through more research, i know for sure it is a pollen spike.

little yellow green banana looking spike. for sure.

its not big, and has just appeared in this form, i imagine it still has a little developing to do.. before it splits open and releases..

i just wanna know how much seed can be made from just a few spikes on some of the flowers..
if i should chop early, or let it seed, if the seed is worth anything,
and if i should try to fight them by removing the ones i can..

i have grown bagseed before that produced a few non-viable male flowers around wk4.
realistically what can you do? look v closely at all your plants-pick off all visible m flowers-do that daily-monitor them to see if more m flowers are being produced and to see if seeds are forming-if they are make a decision whether to chop them early or not

a few m flowers can produced an aweful lot of seeds

good luck
