Everytime I walk into my grow shop these days I hear the Devo song, "Big Mess"...it's really mixed up!!...."He was really mixed up, it was a big mess!!":) I like having 4000 seeds too, it gives me tons of room to breathe, even if it's a big mess now, I'm working on it....

What's up with New England growers?

What's up with New England growers?

You guys have the only "state" thread that I regularly lurk about on. Seriously....that is a killer thread....lots of talent and lots of amazing plants. I'm happy that I have friends over there....I dig the open minded approaches and the progressions being made. This next year should be a enlightening.

DEVO's "Gut Feeling".....is my culling the garden song....and my response to all the naysayers out there. It blows my mind....how under appreciated those boys are....if you think of what they were doing with their concepts and music...in the 70's cock rock era....it can really motivate/reinforce an individual to carry on in a trendy world.

A tip of the hat to you dudes in NE....lots of respect for what you are doing.

It's cool to live in a med state.....though sometimes I get the feeling that we are over inflated in an egotistic sense. I can't put a # on how many cannabis experts I've met in the last few years lol....everybody and their brother....thinks they are the cat's meow...yet...take away the card....and many a passion will wane.

Oh man I love Devo, I used to have some of thsoe instrumental things like "Music for Insomniacs", but I think that was just the boss, Mothersborough, now he ruins my mind with his kids TV soundtracks, half the day long I can hear Devo music in all the kids shows, wierd...Out here in Mass there are very few "experts" who will tell ya' how much they know about pot, I guess it's the opposite out there from the sound of it, must be strangely annoying. Here every town has at least one grower who does things right, the rest are covered in bugs because the climate is so bad and it can be so humid one day and so dry the next, sometimes all in one day, it's tough to maintain a proper climate, esp right next to the ocean.Mass and RI are very weed friendly states, being a weed smoker is no big deal.At the same time not so many people grow and the quantity of well grown pot is very small. All the best from the east!!!:)

Sliding with limited grip...going with the slip

I get to go up a mountain today that is wet from rains down low....covered with crusty wind blown snow up high. I must put in a day of trail time. If we talk about goals.....I need to be able to run 50 trail miles...by mid May. I'm training only in the 15-20 range now...my mind is boggled and I'm needing a breakout month...

Satechism= Casey Jones X BS2.2....I showed these girls on pollination day....they are the taller sisters....one of which reminds me of Belly (the Casey mom I used)....at day 38.

I love these two plants....they have sturdy branching unlike many of the Casey phenotypes I've grown....they reek soooooogoooood....rotten fruit....overly sweet...on the verge of rot...see how that pans out....The plants are about as tall as I want them...44"...I hardly trained them...still crow picking the leaves....helps to have a little resin on your fingers...the leaves stick and you rip...really lovely girls.

At day 24...here are the 4 Satellite leaners....only 27" tall and building flowers quickly....I'll inline them tomorrow....looks like around a 50 day finish....pretty sure they will be quick like that....developing aroma and resins.....stout little bitches...I think they are going to fill in nicely.

Wow you can see my floor....lol...you can see Salt-n-Sea (the depression in the back that collects my run off)....I'll have to collect me some run off salt.....looks like it's about that time. I hardly saw the floor in the last 3yrs....nice to have open space.

Satechism may be one of the better crosses I've made....I just have a feeling. I only had maybe 40 (a nervous #) F1 beans....it was the last thing I did with "Belly" before I gave up her clone....I'm so happy to be moving the cross into the F2....there is so much in this combination that can go right. I found a pops (Blue Satellite 2.2) that could dominate Casey....I'm stoked

Important then... to note further is the veg room combinations that I have growing up.

The Crunge= Karoline Krutch X Prune Juice

Ma Kettle= Casey Jones (Maw pheno) X Grape Krush

I-HOP Grape Krush= Straw Dog X Grape Krush

Those plants are part of the "Affection pool" as is Satechism....I am quilting them together....going down.... then covering every hole with a different outcross. I have my binders and my freak expressions....and keeping the pool swept...by adding in new genetics (I'll stitch in Jessica Lange for example...related but an extra step disassociated)....whatever....I plan to keep the pool fresh and ever changing. I firmly believe in doing both inline breeding and outcross breeding...you can match up in several generations by doing it this way.

I felt it relevant to explain a little how I am operating in my pools...there are several pools...but it is probable that they will eventually combine...

Good tune, def a highly underrated group. I listen to em and my friends see their CDs in my rack and laugh, "these the whip it dudes?" Can't imagine what they must've sounded like in their own time compared to the shit others were putting out. Ma Kettle sounds nice, haven't seen many GK crosses turn out bad yet. I've taken some cues from your inline and outcross methods. Gives me a foundation of sorts for my initial seed projects. Also satisfies both the need to maintain the pool to pick from as well as creating new things and exploring their offerings.

I'm a little younger than ya'll , but my old crew in FL. loved DEVO. They used to tell me stories of going to clubs and rockin the DEVO.
I like the song about the yellow bikini too!

...I harvested the last 2 Hummingbirds....they were posted a little ways back....one was more Kali Mist like....picked at day 67. The other one was the Indica leaning plant (In veg I made a note on her tag...indicating Indica...much more squat in veg.) picked at day 56.

The next batch of beans I want to germ: Cleveland Sage

Cleveland Sage= Prune Juice X Hummingbird

Prune Juice= Querkle X Grape Krush

Hummingbird= Kali Mist x ChemDKush X Grape Krush

I don't want to confuse anyone....I'm not exact on my botany terminology....I tend to simplify things.... make a lot of word associations....categorize stuff by observation using subjective memory as a foundation. Obviously not a scientist....I am in no way trying to make a case for my unsound lingo, methods, or outcome.

What I am trying to do is....have fun, keep my mind open, and base my garden on gut feeling instinct...observation...and selection. In doing so....I will work with unstable plants, take gambles, and generally plot my course where I see fit.

This is a hobby...I cultivate/breed cannabis plants for my own amusement and palate. My goal is to create my own population of expressions that will shine in my environment. I have no desire to be in the bean business....not trying to be someone.

That's my scene...up and up....

It's been 25 yrs. since I 1st bought beans from the Seed Bank & SSSC.
I remember thinking, "this can't last long", and made f2's of my purchases.
Now Canna Biz is booming, but every time I buy seeds, in the back of my mind is a voice encouraging it, "ya never know when they're gonna pull the rug out from under us" and "stockpile for the future".

LOL, in the yr or so we've been corresponding, I must have said multiple times how "this is the last seed purchase I make", and I hope these indicas are the last purchase i made.
Self-sufficiency is the initial impetus for starting to grow, and it comes full circle when you start breeding. I feel I have a wide spectrum @ my disposal now, many avenues available.
Such a solitary hobby, it's just reassuring to see others working in parallel paths. and yes, I'm stoned! :D

Ahh! I love this thread. Mucho inspiring. Not only on the beanmaking front.

I'm back from holidays where I was swimming and snowboarding every day after a brake that lasted many years.
Today I started running. First 5min. I need to work on my willpower, running might help... and 6 years in front of the computer fucked up my body. I started doing Pilates in September and it's just wonderful what it does to my mind. I want more sport.

Middle of winter. Everything frozen. But the days are getting longer now. I have a plan for a semi guerilla herb garden in a lovely spot. Herbs and flowers, without ganja. Just a place to chill and garden. Lots of horse manure on spot... ah... I can't wait for the ground to thaw. The catalogue from my nursery of choice was the first thing I found on my table upon arriving from the mountains. So many cool plants in it. I've spent the whole day reading it and dreaming.

My ganja gardens are kinda planned out as well. I recovered from the tiredness of last outdoor, but still want to grow only for myself this year and don't make it such an effort (let's see how that works out).
I've scored some Grapefruit from fms that I love and want to cross it to F13xA11 and some Ciskei crosses that I hope to give me what I want as well. It sucks for me to grow plants I don't want to smoke. They look good, smell good, perform well in my environment, but it's all a waste if the weed is something I'd rather not smoke. (not that I don't find good ones, even very good ones, but I want them all to be that! I don't mind weak performing plants so much, but the gorgeous ones, when they give evil weed... pisses me off.)

So this time only for myself. Seeds and hashish. Only problem is -> one is addicted to the money...

Cheers and a happy 2011 to all!

Far out...

Far out...

...I've been hitting my joint jar of Thunk. It is such a different high...comes in waves.. back from the grocery store...where I had to grind up some coffee beans...higher than hell... was really into it.

I pollinated these two Satechisms this morning...

When I look at this phenotype....Sweet Tooth...hopefully I get at least one of those flavorful ST phenos. In my mind....but not from experience...Sweet Tooth is one of those real hit or miss type strains...when it comes to keepers. I've grown ST leaning LUIs and BS2.2s....not all of them taste that good. Some are bland....but look great. I've never grown straight Sweet Tooth....just outcrosses...so I could be off...but that's how I view it.

I put this in flower a couple days ago....funny because someone just asked me about Wonder Haze yesterday....

Blind Willy Haze=Wonder Haze X ELEbx1 x ChemDbx2 ix1

I'm flowering just this one plant....kind of a random germ...couldn't decide on what I wanted to grow....so decided to germ a few of these and check them out....

I have a cross called Blind Willy which uses the same pops but a William Wonder ix1 female....grew a couple of those out last spring...nice enough....fortified.

If all looks good...I'll eventually cross Blind Willy with Blind Willy Haze...and keep that little swirl going....

Edit: bean making...is cool as shit....limitless options...any man can be king for a day. I'm like vod....I'm branching out into other herb cultivation...went through the catalog with a yellow highlighter....I love beans of all kinds. They are exciting little promises.

I have found the latest of my last years Bangi x BangiPurpureaTicinensis to give a beautiful euphoric high. Real mood brightener, energy for the body and the mind, lots of optimism, ideas and drive. Dancing, talking and thinking weed.
I Love it.
Funny thing is, that it's the only thing I kept all to myself due to it being the last to come in and not quite pretty. (From the others I have just samples). Is that destiny at play? :smoke:

Some pix of the lady for color:

Shitty structure, leafy, late... but gorgeous smell and high (and hardly any mold if I remember right). I have found a single seed in the buds so far...
Her sister was the exact opposite. Running budsites along the full length of straight sturdy limbs, a month earlier, lot less leaf, triple the yield, but with a vicious streak in the high (and the most mold susceptible plant in the spot). After smoking her 4 or so times I let the stash go.
I've got a baggy full of her children. The pollen donor was also a very good plant from a commercial point of view (no mold, huge buds on short sticks, end of sept), but with an even worse effect. Total destruction. Not something I look for in my smoke. So... useless seeds. I don't see myself sifting to find the ones with a nice head...
Well maybe not quite useless... insurance for bad times (all fem :))

Idea that came to me when smoking with my brother last weekend -> a guerilla herb/veg/wild plant/whatever garden for my daughters kindergarten. With insect hotels, bees... It would be great as an education tool... organic/biodynamic... compost from everyone who wants to take part... could divide into slices and make experiments... ah I had it all planned out and my wife pulls me down from my cloud and says I can't start shit like that on someone else's land... the spot is perfect though. just over the road. overgrown with blackberries, so not quite that easy to set up. Eh... I need to see if the necessary people can be infected with the idea and a permission to use the land granted. And if not... my daughter will be going to school in a few years... and one day I might even have grandchildren... he he :joint:

ways into Jessica Lange

ways into Jessica Lange

I'll show you the Satechism pregnant with the beans of Faye Dunaway and I will show you the Faye Dunaway pregnant with Satechism.

You have seen both of these specimens before of course...but now they are at days 46 (Satechism) and 53 (Faye Dunaway).

By coming from both sides...crissa crossa the boys and girls....I'm opening up further phenotype expression possibilities....with always the handy option of recrissa recrossa....lol...many more options is near 100% a good thing for this crossa.

Satechism= Casey Jones X Blue Satellite 2.2

Faye Dunaway= ChemDD X Cindy Jones

Faye top day 53

Satechism top day 46

Jessica Lange (undifferentiated) = Satechism X Faye Dunaway and Faye Dunaway X Satechism

I have sampled a just dried Faye nugget from the bigger girl I posted a while back.....the ChemDD shows through in flavor and effect....best outcross I've made with "Queen Deliah" ChemDD momma...I can see her in 2 of 3....the exception being the above Faye phenotype...which seems more Diesel.

Honestly....it's nice to have a plant that will knock the shit out of you when smoked. You can have all the mellow...day brighteners etc.....but having a heavy hitter that can turn narco drool for a time...is a must have in my stash. I can work with the high...one of my favorites.

Needed to slow these Ma Kettle females down.....so crow picked off the majority of their leaves....that will fuck them up for a couple weeks...make them change their structure....hopefully into a thick branching bush.

Ma Kettle= Casey Jones (Maw pheno) X Grape Krush

A Chem D trait....carries TMV (I've heard it was tested for the virus and showed positive). Several of the ChemDD ix1 show the signs in their leaves.

A sketchy virus that spreads easily....In the past I had my ChemDD "Deliah" fry her buds on a couple clone runs....buds stayed small and turned brownish/tan...worthless shit. Only on a couple runs....most Xs she behaved. I'm pretty sure that is the TMV. Some peeps would cull if they saw the indicators...probably a good idea even.

It would be hard for me to get rid of the virus...as I've spread it many Xs through outcrosses....maybe a good idea to keep my garden isolated even further....watch the population turn on itself...bunch of zombie plants...my nightmare...the horror

Indeed...I did hear that your jars were spilling over unc.....your grows always look great. Props.

I think some may argue that the leaves above...are showing a nute issue....but me thinks not. I've watched this show in my garden for years now. I used to be baffled by the burned up flowers....but then I did some research. I'm mostly sure my garden is infected...maybe since day #1....really hard to say which strains may be hosting the virus.

The DJ Short mutations are not the same thing....so I've read anyway.

yeah,to some degree i have almost given up on figuring out some of the funky leaf issues,i have one cut that just got all yellow like a mg issue, never would respond to anything i did, while at the same time the three other cuts off the same plant are taking over the room, only a one gallon difference in pot size....could be i forgot to add some extra lime to that one....stoners.... yeah,i think you would like the DTC99 f2's,good breeding stock, the three ladies i have couldnt be more different, all have good qualities as potential moms...

Another nice score....

Another nice score....

Probably the most stink fest male I have ever had. He just reeks of foul skunk...so much so...that I culled my other male...with extreme prejudice.

ChemDDIX1....stud

Normally when I incross I use more than one male....and several females. In this case I'm rolling with only this male and a 8 count of female selections. In my small garden....I don't see any disadvantages in the tactic....preservation is not my objective....quickly getting the meat off the bone...is. One stellar male blended with all/or select females will do the job.

Write this in your book....small time gardeners have not much business claiming to be preservationist. Get over yourselves.... martyrs. Fear not what you think you are losing and concentrate on the now and the unknown. Stop whining about yesteryear.

no doubt, unless your breeding pool numbers in the hundreds you cant reasonably expect to get anything proper done with a preservation project, and not many have the time/space/inclination to do so.that said, given the cost of a pack of seeds i am all for making f2's or whatever you want to call them for personal use,and i love the work the closet pollen chuckers do,shoot,i really need to get some of retardos f13 x casey jones going, the jones krusher was killer, one of my faves...

glad there are people out there willing to do it,i am really digging the dtc99's,seem to take lots of pics of those, the scent is out of this world too,may need to do some pollen chucking of my own with the nice thai leaning female i have, sounds like your new favorite stud would be a good match,or maybe the chem ibl's,seems like the two bud structures could make for some fat sassy colas....plus the smell would be something....
