Induced Forgetfulness (Botany of Desire)

I was watching The Botany of Desire last night. For those of you who don't know what it is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Botany_of_Desire

While i enjoyed the section on cannabis, i couldn't help but get a little concerned when they were talking about the potential in developing a treatment to induce event-specific forgetfulness. It was packaged pretty like everything else - the idea of being able to treat trauma patients by inducing forgetfulness.

Here's a video presentation from the author of the original book, Michael Pollan, recorded in 2002.

It's a long video and MJ is featured in the discertation from 24:30-the end, for those that would like to listen to the entire MJ-related section of the lecture. FYI: The segment from 43:10-56:00 covers the topic on memory and forgetting.

I'm all for medical use and even extracted variants for more specific purposes, but in the case of event-specific induced forgetfulness, it's other implications that made the hairs on the back of my neck raise up...military, government, law enforcement, etc.

Scary.

I dont know who but sombody said that herb gets ya high so that whatever animal eats it wont remember where it was. Sounds a bit scetchey to me. Personaly, I think herb gets ya high so that we'd be theyr own persomal bee's. -They get us high, and we assure theyr propagation and advancment.

Both theories were discussed in Botany of Desire. Same chap.

I hear aliens use anandamide darts right before abductions. It's true cuz I sayz so.

Oh no, my fears have already been realized! Muahahahaha... :thank you:

btw botany of desire is a movie too. there's a free site out there that has it if anyone wants to watch....it's a really great eye opening film about plants. search "free movie links" and you'll probably find the site that has the link.

I'm still not sure about the validity of animals "forgetting" and that being a defense mechanism of canna...impossible to say really how cannabiniods affect animals though..I don't think they would have any sort of conscious realization of what's going on...but total memory loss...that's more like alien or gov stuff to me. It's gonna be just a theory for a lonnnnng time, well till we figure out how to talk to plants.

This makes it perfect for treating PTSD. It is called "extinction learning". See this study by Lutz.
