Big Pharma will co-opt us

Last night, I met a co-worker's family. They are chinese American. We had a lovely brunch and dinner. Within minutes I felt like a part of the family. I struck up a quick friendship with "Uncle Tang." He told me the family's history from Nanking to Frisco. Then he showed me his Grandpa's ()pium pipe.

He looked at it as we would look at our grandparents old comics. He was entranced. He went on about how his Grandpa loved his Grandma, but his true love was ()pium. After moving to the midwest ()pium became rare, so Grandpa became a "Beer man."

It made me think why don't Americans smoke ()pium? Then it dawned on me, it's because big pharma produces so many ()piates in this country.

Then it hit me.
Is big pharma making us do all the leg work and heavy lifting?
One day when Medical Marijuana becomes mainstream, will big pharma just flood the market with THC and CBD pills/sprays/patches?

If you asked the average ()xycontin addict what plant their favorite pill is derived from, would they know?

Therefore I believe that Big Pharma is not sweating.

They will flood the air waves with thc/cbd pills/sprays/patches one day.
I doubt they ever really feared the medical marijuana movement.
It happens all the time. A small group pushed organic foods for decades, now Wal-mart is the biggest seller of Organic foods.

What do you think?

You cant buy opium because the US Govt is already buying all that afghanistan can produce, you can only buy the crack of opium which is shit like oxy. Oxy = watered down opium + 100 other harmful chemicals and fillers. SOme day our kids, kids might reminisce of grandpas pill crusher and say oh how he loved sniffing lines of oxy.

Actually, they were in it before the prohibition. There's a lot of collectible cannabis pre-prohibition items that document what they used, how they processed it, even bottles of tincture and pre-rolled joints. We're talking Eli Lilly and his peers, too.

Many of our classic strains were imported to the americas from their original locations by them. One can only speculate how it will play out with Pharma vs farmers. This may be the Golden Age for western cannabis.

I don't trust big pharma. I'll always make sure I have my own source. They would f up what mother nature has given us. You ever listen to the side affects for the pills on tv ads? Scary shit...

Why didnt he just grow some poppies? (Papaver somniferum)
i know i prefer some semi synthetics to raw opium.. but i guess some like Champaign anther others mad dog 20/20.

Remember Alcohol prohibition? Medical Alcohol seems about the same path as mmj.

here is a Quote

The Eighteenth Amendment to the Constitution, which banned the “manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors,” took effect on January 16, 1920. It became known as the National Prohibition or Volstead Act. This new law required physicians to obtain a special permit from the prohibition commissioner in order to write prescriptions for liquor. The patient could then legally buy liquor from the pharmacy or the physician. However, the law also regulated how much liquor could be prescribed to each patient. There were no provisions for the prescription of beer.

And now state by state they are slowing following along but its the medical marijuana movement.

I dont think Big Pharm will do much with it at least not with the raw stuff we can produce ourselves.

Sure, if it were legal. Just like alcohol, people will still brew it, but they will produce most of it.

Opium is the best ! It should be legal, so should Cannabis. Of course, if they were, Big Pharma would have a hell of a time making as much as they do off them.:)

I disagree that big pharma will take over. They will provide options. They already have marinol and sativex(sp?)

I do believe that the future will be less smoking/vaping and more edibles and tinctures.

Smoking has a culture, that will never go away,
but there is a segment of smokers that are in it just for the results.
If 2 drops in your mouth, get's you to the same place that 2 bong hits do, many may choose the drops.

They have Sativex but it's not FDA approved, although I read they are supposed to start trials in this country soon! Although already recognized in Canada & Spain & I think NZ along with of course the UK.
If cannabis ever gets rescheduled for medical use the US government will have to finally make it legal & I'll just grow it outside like everybody else!:smoke out::watchplant::smoweed:
