What kind of tape do you use with your Cool Tube? My exhaust smells strange.

I have a couple of Cool Tubes, and used Shure Tape foil tape to attach the duct work. My set up goes Filter, Cool Tube, Fan. I have 2 different Cool Tubes, but used the same tape. I have 2 different tents, each smell the same. The smell was not there before I used the cool tubes, and my filter removes all of the bud smell...so the "Hot" smell has to be before the filter and by passing it.

I am assuming it is the tape. Has anyone else experienced this? What kind of tape are you using? I have never had this smell in over a decade. Now I hook up 2 Cool Tubes and bam...hot smell. I had a ghetto cool tube ages ago and it never smelled.

Hey slowandeasy, are these new Cool Tubes? I use Shure Tape on my AC hoods and have never smelled any "hot" smell from it.
Could it be left over manufacturing oils burning off of the Cool Tubes? I ususally give my stuff a wipe down as you never know what types of residue is left over from oils or mold lubricants, etc.
If that is what it is, it should eventually just burn off and the smell will go away.

in your setup the hot air is sucked through the tubes, right ?
so the smelling could come from warm/heated fan! especially when there is direct heat coming from two tubes...

setup should be filter -> fan -> tube(s) -> outside.
so the fan blows cool air through the tube and not directly sucking in hot air which could deform inner plastic parts of the fan.

setup doesn't always have to be filter/fan/tube/outside. There are many other options for ventilation. depending on the light he is using, he mite want to consider a different ventilation setup.

I do agree, it is most likely because your fan is getting hot. I would stop exhausting the heat from a cool tube through your fan

If you are not using a 1000w, Just do what snuggles said. Although, you dont have to really vent outside. you can most likely vent back into the same room, depending on your fan and if the room has an air conditioner. You can even vent into another room or even the attack.. its up to you.

with a 1000w, you should try to separate it from the grow atmosphere completely. You can cut holes to another room or an attack for the intake and the exhaust. Only use this for the light so it is separates from the room. Then you can set up another fan and a filter in the grow room for odor control and fresh air exchange. This is the best way to take control of the room temp with a 1000w i feel.

I have 2 different fans and 2 different lights and 2 different Cool Tubes. My fans are on the outside of my tent, but yes they are pulling warm air by them. I have the fans on the outside to save room in tents. The smell is identical coming from the exhausts. The smell has to be after the filter, because my one tent is ready for chop this week and smells really nice!! Zero bud smell on outtake.

The one tent is 6 inch ducting and I taped the whole thing to ensure no smells get by. The other is a 4 inch, different fan and filter...identical smell. So it is either the tape or the fan that is smelling. Either way, I agree...it is ideal to set up filter-fan-tube-out. It will be a tight fit, but I will switch it at harvest time when all the plants are out. I have done it in the past with no smell, but a long time with different equipment. Since the smaller tent is not full yet, I can try it out tomorrow...that wont be as big of a deal.

They are just new Cool Tubes, not a new set up. I have been using the same space for a very long time. My exhaust goes outside the room, that is not the issue. I upgraded lights and used cool tubes this round because of they are in Tents. To save space I kept my fans outside of the tent, as they were forever when I just used regular reflectors with no tube. I was hoping the length of duct work would cool the air down before the fan, but I guess not enough.

if you have a long duct run, it should cool it enough. Maybe the fan is not the issue. What watt is your light?

600 watt. Either way it is better to hook up the filter, fan, tube way...but it I left the fans outside of the tent to save space. All I can do is try, if that does not work...it has to be the tape.

seems like worth a try slowandeasy ;)

also, another method to see if it really comes from the tape could be to replace the tape with a metal hose clamp (?if this is translated correctly?), screwed airtight to the tubes.
if the smell is still present, then it has to be the fan that heatens up.
