Veg box inside flowering room?

Still planning my grow, due to my state's limits it makes it nearly impossible to have a single room without going over limits on weight. So I will be doing a perpetual setup however I only have 1 bedroom in my home to spare...nowhere else in the house would work, basement/garage isn't finished or insulated.

Anyways what I want to do is dedicate the bedroom to the grow, mainly for flower, but build a grow box/enclosure inside that bedroom where I will veg. Do you think this will work, or does anyone have experience? Obviously the veg box will need to be light proof so it won't disturb the flowering plants...plan to do this by having a carbon filter on the end of the exhaust and dark room vents for passive intake.

Do you think this is a good idea, or am I just opening myself up to problems?

Might be annoying having to wait for the flower room lights to be on to work on anything that is vegging.

My veg room was in the flower room before I expanded. Mine was built mostly out of foam board, but I like that fridge idea.

Yeah, I plan on making a 4x4 veg box out of 2x4's, 2x2's, and 1" thick insulation board type material. Just really hoping I can get it light proof otherwise I'll waste another 50+

I used the pink insulation board and it wasn't quite light proof. I attached panda film to it with Super 77 spray glue and it worked A+.

really? Are you talking about the cracks where you attached the insulation to the 2x4's leaking light? Or the entire sheet of insulation glowing from outside of the box?

Had to of been at the cracks, that stuff is way too thick to glow. But anyways I was planning on painting both sides of the insulation, as well as using caulk or that spray foam insulation along the cracks/crevices inside the grow box to block any light leaks.

Foil backed insulation is how I got around that issue with thinner stuff. Cost is within a few pennies of the unbacked stuff.

My veg space is in my flower room I used 2 layers of panda. White exposed on both sides. Works great but I didn't make it big enough or put it in the right part of the room so after this run I'm going to move and enlarge it but i will still be using the panda.

made mine out of osb plywood and 2x4's.found anything other then wood is very hard to keep light proofed for more then 1 or 2 cycles.home made tent with panda was ok for 1 grow started leaking on second cycle.

Before I expanded I had 2 tents with flowering plants(on opposite schedules)with a veg closet in the same room..worked fine. Never had any light issues either. I was always real careful about what was on and wasn`t when I needed to work

Bam that's the way to go right there^^^^unless you got a room full of chemdogs those little light leaks ain't gonna matter. J/k on the chemdog I've never grown em ;)

uhh thats really bad advice gdawg, no offense.

it happened to my friend on 2 different crops of 3 completely different strains, 2 tiny light leaks that u couldnt even see unless you sat in the room during dark for 10 minutes to let your eyes adjust..completely hermied 2 crops. once he fixed them the following crop had no problems at all

yes 1 strain wasnt effected by it in terms of turning hermaphrodite but that doesnt mean it wasnt effected in other ways. and the fact that 3 of 4 strains herm'd from it i'd say it's pretty damn important.

the only way i'd ever use one of those tents is by getting a huge one and running it as a sealed environment complete with air cooled lights, dehumidifier, and co2. basically have it so none of those cheap ass "vents" are open which dont block any light at all

I guess I've just been lucky. And that is how I run my tents, in one big sealed room its really sweet and simple. Tents make things a lot easier and I went through the whole build my own veg box thing that didn't work out too great and nowhere near as lightproof as my tents. But I suck @ carpentry. The tents I bought were homebox seconds @ bg u know where. Cheap and no complaints here

I may have just had bad luck with the tent I bought then but after I bought it I read reviews on other tents and basically multiple sources came right out and said no grow tent is 100% light proof.

Having light leaks in the dark cycle doesn't just cause hermaphrodites... sometimes it won't make a plant herm but it will reduce yield, bud density, etc.

I'm not a good carpenter either but in theory the design I am thinking of should work. 4x4 box of 2x4's, 2x2's, and plywood walls or another material. Paint walls, use expandable foam insulation spray stuff for all the cracks to seal everything and make it light proof. The entire front wall will be the door on hinges and shut with a clasp and padlock, use weather stripping to seal the door and keep it light tight. 1 4" round hole for the exhaust duct. 2 8" square holes on bottom for dark room louvers.

Once I get around to doing it I'll let you know how it went but in *theory* it should work and be much better at blocking light than a tent, and allow more air flow than a tent.
