Go to a hardware store and ask for ceiling white paint. You may not have noticed but ceilings aren't standard eggshell white, they use a highly reflective white paint just called "ceiling white". Makes the room seem brighter.

...sorry, just have had many years as a painter...

You should use flat white wall paint on walls, ceiling paint is cheaper and lesser-duty (and also is not as "white" in fact) but I don't recommend it.

If you want "on the cheap" get a cheap primer, and use a lesser-grade all purpose interior wall paint. I recommend Benjamin Moore's cheaper stuff.

contrasting opinions! i'm going with the pro painter on this one...

Yup, my pro painter pal uses Bennies stuff, says its the best, new d/w, 2 coats oil base primer and top coat anything, but if you want to wash walls with light bleach stick with an oil base washable mold resistant finish. He says latex has come a long way and some of them are even good but they just aren't as durable as old school oil base. Hot tip, saran wrap roller between coats and chuck after use. No point in using $3 bucks of turpentine to clean a $1 buck roller unless it's a Purdy or a real pro roller.
Kilz is good too for sealing and a quick once over.
My thoughts on Mylar are 90% vs 95% reflectivity over paint. You gotta wonder if that 5% translates into a possible extra gram or two considering that it's flammabilty is right up there with gasoline. I like poker but I'm not sure I'd be willing to take that bet. It would really put a crimp in your day to pull up to your house and see Fire Marshall Bill holding up your growlight standing in the rubble of what was once your home and saying
"Now kids...LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING."
I think a serious +/- cost/benefit assessment would be in order to make a rational decision on this topic.
Hmmm... is wallpapering my heat and electrical intense growroom with flashpaper a good idea or not? Should I use my prodigious intellectual capabilities to improve my production values in all other areas first, before resorting to a hazardous course of dubious additional merit. More data needed to convince me.
Y'all know what Dirty Harry sez...

But you gotta admit it DOES look cool in the bud porn shots.

Just my double pennies and I welcome any statistical data that would show a tangible yield increase that would be worth the risk of using flame loving wrapping paper.
But then again, I'm just a noob with a flair for the unconventional thought. I don't know shit. I mean, how can you trust a guy who's ridden a Harley for years without a single tattoo?

Mylar's rating is only useful if you can guarantee that it'll be flat and perfectly clean all the time. And rarely is that ever the case, except for the few days right after installation. After that, I'd guess that it has a lower reflectivity than any other surface discussed here.

Your plants couldn't care less how "cool" the surrounding room looks, they just want more light. Are you building your room to impress your friends with how "cool" your less-reflective walls look, or are you doing it to maximize the potential?

important note bout mylar/plastic covered surfaces:

important note bout mylar/plastic covered surfaces:

If you decide to cover your walls with mylar or other plastic, please make sure you at least prime all surfaces before covering, if they are not already (e.g. new drywall), or you will almost certainly have moisture issues as the humidity builds in proportion to your lovely flowers...

Another idea for the fiscally challenged or people who revel in saving a buck to the near level of an OCD frenzy (like myself) is to just get the cheapest stuff and ask the guy at the color desk (HD, Lowes etc,) to put a few shots of ultra white pigment in and shake it.
That's why it's usually cheaper...less pigment.
And it's FREE.
Yeah okay, so some will come off the wall when you wash it , but bigod, it'll be a white-ass white that stays.

I have about 2400 sq feet to cover including a concrete floor. I am thinking about Kilz premium or Kilz complete (oil based) with flat or matte white over it all. My question is, considering I cannot find a place that stocks 5 gals of the Kilz oil based, which primer should I go for? Also how long before I can stick my plants and tables in there without off-gassing/VOC issues? I've got 2x 14" fans sucking air out of the room and I can hang the lights as soon as the paint/prime is done if that will speed things up. Thanks a bunch!

I just LOVE Panda, been using Mylar and it just gets dirty and scuzzy from my foliar spraying, I can at least wipe the Mylar clean if I am that motivated...lol

White paint or Panda film for easy cleaning and durability. Any spraying in the room with mylar blows. Killz on the floor, white of course :)

I used Killz2 complete with the mold/fungi crap in it on the floor and put plants in 2 days later, there was still a smell for at least a week or so but everything was gravy. Even with ventilation that stuff is killer shit in a small room so plan ahead and get lots of air circulation cos it will burn your face lol.

Get ceiling white paint. It has higher levels of Titanium Dioxide pigment. You may have never noticed but ceilings are painted usually with a very highly reflective white paint, in order to optimize the brightness of the room lighting. If you can get a mold/mildew resistant variety that would be killer.
