Blueberry - First Organic Grow

Well I'm going to do a bit of a grow journal here so that you can see the progress of the Joey weed blueberry. I've not seen many grow journals on this strain so I figured I'd give it a go.

I germiniated ten seeds last thursday so they are 9 days old today and they are just now starting to show there second set of true leaves. seven of the ten surivived the germination process which for me is a decent ratio.

All of the seedlings are in mix #2 from the organics thread. The only thing I did differently was I did not add any EWC as an amendment and instead used compost. The reason I did this was because at the time I had no EWC but had plenty of compost. I now have EWC and will be using it as a tea as well as bat guano and kelp for feeding.

These seedlings started out under CFL for the first few days and are now under a 600W HPS. Right now they are 2" from the light and I have been raising them 2" every day. Temperatures are very managable in the room and sit around 75 degrees. The harder part for me is keeping the room warm when the lights go out but I think I have that covered with a space heater.

I do have on odd looking seedling that had three leaves. I've never seen this before but it's healthy so I'll grow it out until it dies or thrives :)

Here are some pictures to get things starts and I'll continue to update this thread as things progress. It's going to be a fairly fast grow as I only plan on vegging for a few weeks and then switching over to flower.

Enjoy.

cool, a good blueberry organically grown is the best smelling weed i have come across (yet)

remember they dont need much N, especially in flowering. also keep a good look out for male flowers as herm traits come with the genetics.

looks like you have a trifoliate too (3 leaves at each node instead of 2) - interesting :)

try and keep cuts of all the girls - because as i said if you get a good one you are going to want to keep it :)

^^^ listen to VG about taking cuts. :) Looking nice. Don't know anything about the JW Blueberry.

I would have thought the one with 3 leaves (triploid?) would give some nice extra buds making it 50% extra free lol. I would love to germinate a seed to find its 3 or even 4 leaves at each node. If the smoke is good from that one it may be a great motherplant. Definately listen to VerdantGreen and check out his grows. Bloody excellent.
Im flowering a DP blueberry at the moment and it smells very fragrant, like a fruity bubblegum smell, and the buds are thick with hairs/calyxes. Seems to be a little more difficult to clone than others i have cloned, but i havent exactly got optimum cloning conditions lol. I wonder if using colloidal silver to make female pollen from that particular plant and then pollinating its female flowers would continue the 3 leafs at each node in the feminised seeds? Might be a good phenotype to keep around. Colloidal silver is really easy to make as long as you have 999. silver to make it with.

Good luck with your grow harvey.
I'll be interested in how those plants get on. I remember buying and smoking blueberry weed 5 or 6 years ago and it was a lovely smoke. Be interesting to see the difference between Joey weed and DP blueberry.

GMT has an excellent thread about trifoliates
https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=53476

yeah blueberry takes a bit longer to root clones but they generally root just fine...

my keeper blueberry is still my most precious cut - from a single fem seed (DP)

mine seems to have a lot of thai influence and very little oaxican and afghan, but it smells incredibly strongly - of floral/skunkyness with blueberry in there too. smells like cotton candy and sweet hash when growing. ive posted this pic a few too many times but here it is

Quick Update

Quick Update

Well just wanted to let you folks know that things are going great so far. All seven plants are doing well and are going to be transplanted from there one gallon containers to there 6 gallon containers this weekend if there ready. They are close but I'm not in too much of a rush. They will be 4 weeks old from seed this week so I'm not in too big of a hurry to send them to flower. I'd like to get some clones off of them first to derermine which are female before switching to 12/12.

I do want to show you one of my plants thats looking quite odd. The other 6 are doing great and to be honest this one is progressing the fastest out of all of them but the leaves look very odd almost like saw blades. It's in the exact same mix as the other 6 and they all look normal. The leaves are not dry or cracking and the plant looks otherwise quite healthy so I'm not too concerned but figurted I'd post a picture to see what you folks think. Like I said it seems to be progressing way faster the all the other ones. It's almost 5 nodes high and is already forming nice branches from the lower leaf sets.

should I just leave her/him alone and let nature take it's course or should I inverveen?

What is the position of the plant in relation to your light and airflow? And since you said this is your tallest plant is another clue to the problem I believe.

It's actually not the tallest just progressing the fastest. I'd say it's about the same height as the other ones only it's has developed faster.

As far as airflow and relation to the light. It is around 15" away from a 600watt hps running a cooltube. Temps are great in the room 70 - 75. I also have an oscillating fan on low circulating air around the room.

Looks good to me harveyj :) Those leaves look like they are doing that because of genetics, not a nutrient issue. I'm open to being wrong on that, but i've had a few plants who just have slightly different development that does not have a negative impact on their growth.

I say keep up the great work. :D

You could be right. Like I said it's growing stronger then all the others and other then the leaves looking funny it's a very strong plant. Better not be a male :)

blueberry is known for throwing up mutations, but from what ive read they often grow out of it. also could be any of the above :D

the new growth looks better so far though...

yeah I'm not concerned. I'll let it take it's course. I find too often we get in the way of the plants growing. Let them do there thing.....

Thought I'd throw up a few quick pictures of one of my girls. She is doing great in her 6th week of flowering now. You can see how blue/purple her leaves have gotten. She smells amazing and am looking forward to the end product. do the bud fill out a lot more in the last two to three weeks of flower? There a good size now but I'd like even bigger if possible. I know that Blueberry is not a huge yeilder so I'll take whatever I can get. :)

Thanks for looking

good job,

can I ask, hollow stems, or colored stems?

also if you know, does this BB come from DP or DJ? wondering what JW stock was from

The main trunk is green but the leaf stems are purple/blue.

JW bb seeds come from DJ shorts bb plants. They don't seem to give a whole lot of yield but what it does produce looks amazing.

Cheers

Fill out more? They look great to me :) I'm also growing these and I am about 4 weeks along. I didn't write down the day I started oops. I hope mine change color like yours right now my taller pheno has purple buds.

These are F2's of DJ stock. A lot of variation I planted two got 2 females. One is taller and purple one is shorter and green. The green one smells of lemons the other is starting to have a berry fragrance. My purple one had purple stems all the way through.

Here's some pics of mine. can't wait for smoke report either. :smoke out:
