Corncob.....

I have been using some corncob in my last grow ,some ground up and fresh, (animal bedding) and some broken down ancient chicken coop bedding. It first goes through a cycle in my rotter-composter.
Seems to be a great soil structure booster, and cheap.

Any thoughts:blowbubbles:

Why not....anyone? I would just be careful about disturbing any established balance by adding to much...but who knows what the best percentage is. Go for it and see what happens,if it works great then you paved the corncob road for the rest of us. Good luck :)

That sounds like like good stuff sunnydog, are you composting it first or are you just adding it to your mix?

I grow about 20-30 cornstalks a year in my garden, and whatever I don't eat I run through my composter. It's slow to compost and seems to lighten the mix - it's been good stuff for me. Good Luck.....SC

after we harvest and eat the corn we grow here we turn the stalks into mulch( almost ends up like a leaf mold compost) anyways the cobs go through a chipper and then we turn the pieces into char for composting/soil. gives the compost a very good structure which ends up in your soil making it better.
