I dont have many wall sockets so I have no choice but to use an 8 gang extension cord, Ive been told when connecting HPS/MH lights the ballasts thats connected to the contactor relay has to be connected straight to the mains (wall sockets) & not extension sockets. Is this true if so what is the reason behind it?

if its 1 light u should be fine but its what the extension lead can take i.e what amp and wattage "the load" , also most regular ext are not heat resistant ..if u do use ext unravel it ...so it doesnt get hot all coiled up...alterantively run twin core heat resistant cable from the back of you sockets and then put a twin female plug box on the end and then plug your relay etc into that..Im not a sparky but have used all the methods above with 1200watts

from the house wall socket Ive used a 3500watt rated extension, with two outlets, then another two 4way extensions, daisychained, in each socket giving me a total of 15 outlets, using 10 atm, never blown the plug, extensions, or house fuse, total amps is important, know your appliance ratings and dont go above the rating for the extension or the total for the circuit, dont set timers to come on simultaneously, leave a miniute gap for spike in amps at startup, that might be why they give that advice about extensions:joint:H

Disclaimer, im not an electrician, this is what I do, it works for me!!!
