quick question....what type of ballast (light holder) do you use for a vertical grow, my local hydro guy is totally clueless to help me.

I am converting a 8 x 8 horizontal to a stadium vertical grow and have been looking for something to put my HPS bulbs into or can I just take the adjusta-wings reflector off and use the ballast I currently have? Sorry for such a NEWBY type of question but need some help?

Dugg.i gave the pot its first full water the otherday so they were a bit wet for a while but as they grow bigger that will settle down.some of the plants were a bit close to the light and caused some curl,iv moved them further from the light.:)

mrktwiz,i just used the lamp holder from my horizontal shade.

cool mate sounds like its sorted then! if im running soil in big pots i usually put clay balls or scoria etc about an inch thick in the bottom of the pot ... works great even if you over water them the roots dont get soggy in the bottom of the pot and helps get plenty of air to the root system

DISASTER:badday:
Woke up this morning to check on the girls and found this.
the light had fallen down, and burnt 4 of the 6 plants, burnt a hole through the plywood floor, through the carpet and scortched the concrete under it.im so fukin gutted. Its just lucky the house didnt burn down with us in it.I had secured the lamp cable to a hook with duct tape but it must have come undone.

OMG, that is my big fear of running bare bulbs! Very happy damage was minimal for you considering what might have happened.

I had to leave my grow for 3 days to be with family for the holidays and I must admit I had bad thoughts of this happening to me while away. Kept asking myself, was 3 zip ties enough, am I sure I hit a stud with the hanger? I even thought of making a safety chain like a ladies watch....

Anyway, looks like you recovered well and on your way to a great grow, can't wait to see how it flowers...

Arrrrrrggg.
Fukin mites.I have 3 plants with a major infestation 2 weeks into flowering.I hate these things.Iv sprayed with yates mite spray and will get some predatory mites in a day or 2.
:wallbash:

Bro if you've sprayed already predators wont work. The residue from the spray will kill them. Also IME predators take a wee while to get underway and beat the mites. SOG sell a really good canadian express mite spray. Alot of people in NZ moan about mites but IME its just a case of being vigilant. Spray once a week and make sure you really soak the plants (especially the bottom of the leaves). I pull the plants out and put them in the bath tub and fully drench them. It works, garunteed, you just gotta be vigilant and even when you think you've beaten them give the plants another spray to stay on top of hatching eggs.

Sucks to hear about the mites anyway bro.
Those plants must be getting BIG now. Looking forward to pics!
