Racial and ethnic slurs and spamming

Well we'll see once it's sorted out. Don't want to push it too much. As I stated previously, I am not a shitstirrer by far, just want to see some common sense. We'll watch and see what the rulebook says, and will or won't post up the grow depending on the decision.

So, for example, if I wanted to put up a run of say, Alien OG from Cali Connect, I can start a new grow thread in the coco growers forum titled Alien OG as long as I don't mention the breeders name, company, or the seed bank or answer the same questions if asked by a visitor to the thread? Correct? Or not? What if a visitor mentions the names you don't want. Is the post it was named in get deleted or the whole thread?

I think some people are making this more than it is. Its not about free speech or your rights on the internet. It sounds to me more about the necessity of keeping a large high traffic site up and running 24/7. You have to enforce a product spamming rule on a site that is kept afloat with vendor ads and breeder support. I don't think JJ or anyone else thinks its a particularly ideal situation, but that its necessary. Its how privately owned businesses work.
What some of you are asking for is only available with a government run program where the state pays for everything out of its budget so that each citizen can have equal rights to participate. The nature of the beast of a privately owned business is that the people who give the money to keep the shit running are given different rights.
And the racial/ethnic slurs issue isn't about free speech or tolerance or censorship as some are saying. Its about the fact that IC is an international community and making others feel unwelcome based on race or ethnicity is damaging to the aims of the community.
I'm waiting for someone to start accusing ICmag of spraying chemicals over your houses and conspiring with the Federal Reserve to permanently enslave us all.

By the way, the server's been really stable lately, I love the fact that https with an up-to-date SSL cert is always available (only pot site like that), and if its true that you're giving our new server admin a good salary, I think that's the best investment of money for a site like this.

They are PAYING to advertise on here...it is that $$ that keeps the site going--

It is sort of common on message boards that the people who frequent them tend to get a little too comfortable sometimes, especially on company owed ones. We can all tend to act like we are having a great chat in our own living rooms. And that can be fine ... to an extent.
The reality is that even though these places can be a great places for us all to come together and learn from each other, these places are ultimately here to serve a business function. They provide a places for a vendor/vendors to have contact with each other and customers. Marketing. That's why they pay the large expense to create this place for us all to use.
This is not an extension of any society. It's not any political extension either. It can be and usually is a great community but even though it feels comfortable to be here many of us need to be reminded every once in awhile that essentially we are all sitting in a lounge located in a virtual store front and that we need to act accordingly.
As a community, every once in awhile, people have personality conflicts. It happens, a reality. Sometimes we all need to just take a step back and remember where we are. Mods are employees and even though they can be buddy buddy at times with many people here they are still employees of the virtual store we are in.
This thread is just an employee reminding us where we all are and reminding us to act accordingly.
They don't need to do that but they seem, here on this message board at least, to give a lot of friendly warnings before they kick someone out of the store.
I personally am not sure where the confusion for some people is occurring but Thanks JJ for the easy going heads up on this situation.

I can see that there is little difference in here than the outside now. Does big media talk about news that might hurt their sponsors? Censorship/banning of people talking about other strains?! I can see how big $ from certain seed banks changes the rules and the whole playing field. And I can also see that where this leads as well.
Forgive my sarcasm, but if this is the path ICMAG is being steered to, then it should be re-named to some kind of government that is run by corporations, and employs tactics of censorship, banning, etc. Hmm..., what kind of government is that? Do you folks with the powers of discretion see where this may be taking us to? I only hope it doesn't spin out of control, where too many good people with good info & experience, get pissed & leave.

It's just like putting one group of people with opinions, and one group of bigots into the same garbage can. This is amateurish, sleazy, and hitting-below-the-belt-politics. I left this thread open this long for a purpose. We get asked numerous times why we don't take the time to explain things. I think this thread answers that question. I was nice enough to take the time so the members knew how we feel. and why we do things certain ways. And what did I get for my efforts? I got accused of everything from being a censor all the way to being Adolph Hitler. I think this may answer why we don't take the time and try to explain things better.....
And to you Ginyu, I'm not ashamed of myself. To compare our rules of not allowing spam to that of being a Government that censors it's citizens at least gave me a laugh. I might consider you not taking the internet quite so seriously. There's a real world out there.
My main objective was to let people know we are going to go back to the old way of doing things. Many members have complained that we are to lax in the way we handle trolls and these few people cause negativity and anger, which are non productive to the environment of the site. For this we apologize. It's my hopes that we wouldn't have to ban anyone, but unfortunately it can't be that way. We just wanted to let people know we are going to try and limit the arguments people have to read.......

JJS, DG and the rest of the admins and mods that help moderate this site have a lot on their plate. I personally don't moderate, I stick to the tech side of things, but I have had quite a bit of insight into what these guys do and what they have to go through...and believe me, it ain't easy. It's a very, very difficult job to balance the needs and sensitivities of so many members (currently 137k+) vs. trying to ensure things are fair and open so that we all can have a place to freely and openly discuss the plant we all love so much.
With that being said, there are somethings that just simply won't be tolerated, and JJ has already addressed those. It's just a matter of respect and decency, not censorship and being called 'Hitler' lol. To the ones that support our team of mods and admins, thank you all, to the ones that don't, please cut them a bit of slack, and try and empathize with their position, what they do isn't easy, trust me!
