What's new

can somebody explain this

I have 2 strains that have been bastardized over the past few runs from problems with hermies. One is a mix of about 5 purple strains, and the other was a gift of some seeds that are mostly sativa just from looking at plant structure and flowering time. (at least 10 weeks)
Here is my question. What would cause a seed to develop in these pods at the base of the side branching. I have been watching for hermies, and have not found any. I am at about 6weeks in flower now, and I found a seed in only one of these pods as far as I can tell at this point. I have these pods at the base of most all of the side branches with pistils coming out just like a bud but when I pinch them there is no seed in them, other than the one. Did I just miss a hermie, or is there some other explanation for this?
Sorry if this is too convoluted.

those pods are the calyxes where the buds will form on your plant when they get triggered into flower...if one of these calyxes had a seed in it that means that some form of pollen got into your room with your ladies (prolly either hermie or stray pollen carried in by you, your clothes or the wind even)...if it is only one seed then its not a big deal and ive had this happen before to me too when i didnt take a male outta a veg room till after he busted his load...had a tall highland mexi girl who was more than mature but i was just letting her get bigger and she had a very swollen calyx...so i popped it and out came an immature bean...but yea dont go around pinching em all :joint:

You might have missed a seed pod, or just had a little bit of pollen on your clothing when you entered your garden. I have seen it a lot in rooms where people allow pets mostly. Pets should be outlawed in weed gardens IMO, they can bring in too many pests.

Did you really "find" a seed or you just assume you're looking at a seed? Calyxes swell up like that. It's normal. It's actually what you want.

Sometimes if you open up a calyx, or you look at it from the right angle, you'll see a little tiny green ball inside. This I used to assume was a premature seed, but it only becomes a seed IF it's pollinated, so this was normal, and a big relief.

If you see a calyx attached to a tiny petiole (stem) without hairs coming out, it's probably a nutsack but I don't see that in your pics.

the pic of the nodes does not look like it's mature enough to even throw a seed.
are the pics of the same age? (taken in close proximity datewise)?

All of the pics were taken yesterday. I found the seed about a week ago.And it definitely was a seed. It seems like that was the only one. There must have been some pollen left floating around from the last run, since I have been watching for nanners and have not found even one on this run and there is only 2-3 weeks left till the chop. I'll have to go in after harvest and wash down the walls and floor. There was one male out of 6 plants. But I pulled it as soon as I noticed it was male, none of the pollen sacs had opened since that was only about 10 days into 12/12. Thanks for the help. It is odd since none of the actual buds seem to have any seeds, and those pods are not growing into buds they are just single calyxes at the base of a node while the rest if the node buds normally. The pics are not the best but the last pic gives the best view of it.

these are 6weeks into flower. Those single calyxes seem to be where the nanners are growing from, I just spent the past hour searching and picking them off. It seems that it is the strain, and not any defect in the room, as the other strain does not seem to have any, yet this strain seems to do this every run. I have some seeds ordered now so I may have to junk this strain since it hermies every time no matter what I try to do to stop it.
