Transferring from Soil to DWC?

Hey guys,

Sorry to ask a potentially dumb question. I searched it out a little bit but couldn't find a relevant thread. How would one go from transferring a clone from a red party cup to a DWC? A friend got me a kick ass Christmas present ( :jump: ) but I want to make sure I transfer it without hurting the plant. Any advice or experience would be appreciated.

:thank you:

I was thinking about taking a cup of water/nutes/and maybe some root juice and dipping my plant in that before putting it in the DWC chamber. You think that would work? I fully expect I'm going to shock this plant and it's going to take 10 or so days to come out of it but I'd really hate to lose plant, it looks beautiful.

I agree that the next (few) days your plant will have to eat from it's stored food, but I have to say that it's not that difficult and I've never lost a plant doing so...
Get a bucket full of water and continually submerge the roots and dirt...the stuff will come off slowly, as it does just GENTLY massage the stuff out...if there is perlite stuck in the roots and you'll do damage removing it, just leave it as it's not gunna harm in the long run..
Until you see aquatic roots, I'd just keep her in plain H20 or a real light nutrient mix...She may look like she's struggling for a few days and that can be depressing, but when her roots take it'll be plug'n play just like usual w/ DWC...
damn, that's the longest post I ever had...caffienated!

i've done it lots of times in fact i was going to pop all my cuts and move them to soiless dixies to get a topping or two before washing away the soiless and moving them to my hydro setup this time but i didnt get around to it. i just fill a bucket with water and dunk the root mass into it until it is all gone. after that i just plant it and i'm all good to go! just did two ChemD's last run with zero issues no drooping or yellowing or any sign of issues they were perky in the soil and perky in the hydro system.

i also used to do this as well. its dubious. you can and will loose plants due to the stress of disturbing the root mass. which is why i switched to rapid rooters (peat pellets).

Since your kinda stuck with what you have i would reccomend using room tmep water. DO NOT USE cold right out of the tap. this time of year its 50 degrees from my sink and will stunt the hell out of the plant due to the temp swing.

otherwise like others have stated. bowl of water and repeated dunks to remove the soil. try to get 90% of it off if possible and dont go digging around for the pearl lite pellets its not worth the damage to the root mass.

i wish you luck. imo its a little big to try this. everytime ive done it was from 6 pot starter packs.

Have you thought about taking a clone or two off of it first so if you do lose it in the process you would at least have a clone to work with?

Alright well I just transplanted... I got as much soil off as I could but the root ball was pretty big and formed in the cup. I did the best I could but I'm kind of nervous about this. Anyway the plant is sitting under a 1,000w HPS now so we'll just have to hope for the best.
