First hydro/ kbs

Well as it states this will be my first hydro grow. I choose to go freedom cuz i like the low plant count. For starters i am going with just one bucket. I am in need of some guidence on this so any help would be great help. i am working with an 8 x 5 x 8 area, i know the freedom setup usally has mad lighting but 1 onli have a single 1k. It has a PL hood but i will try vert lighting for this. One question i have is how many gallondns should my res have. I elimenated thefloat valve( i am using a gravity feed for the passive res)so i can go with the bare min. Also i am using a thomas pump that puts out 1.3 cfm will that be for my 1 bucket system.

"For those of you that dont know how a freedom bucket works heres the deal as best i can describe it. 1 container holds the grow media, lava is the preferred. Usually the media container is a 5 gallon bucket but i am using 3.5ers. since i have scaled it down a bit. This bucket sits inside another container (another bucket, big rubbermaid or in my case a square plastic planter without drain holes) The media bucket must be raised off the bottom of the outer container 6 to 8 inches. Basically the top bucket is constantly fed buy two 1/4" inch feed lines, the roots drop down through to the lower bucket and are splashed with bubbles (nft) by air stones sitting in the bottom in 1" to 1 1/2" of water. I dont think im doin a very good job explaining this so im gonna show some pics of mine and if anyone has any questions please feel free to ask. I put an m-39 mom i had lyin around in it and she has exploded!"

Lord Siva , with just one candle in yer room , I would just top light that single plant or put 2-4 plants around tha single bulb and rotate tha plants . Otherwise you will be lossing alotta light . Enclose tha bulb with yer plants , ya know ! As far as res. size , yer kbs don't need to hold alotta water , maybe a gallon , if that , as yer drain is located 1"-1.5" from tha bottom . This shallow amount of water helps cut down chillin it in tha summer . Fer one bucket I would probably do like a 15 gallon res (alittle over kill but ya got a buffer ; but like I was sayin , I would surround tha bulb with 2-4 plants . FunkySkunk is runnin KBS as well as Goldmember , give em a PM although I havent heard from GM lately.

there are a few of Krustys old threads still here in the earliest pages of the hydro forum..... long before i ever came but ive read through them and there are several as well as others grows in them too.
