Lights?

My garden is 3'x4' it is lit by a 400w HPS. Im happy with how my plants grow, sort off. Last week I smoked some med from a despensery, stuff grown under a 1000w, I can deffently tell the difference in bud density. My buds are nice and my med is strong, but more watts works better. Now my question would I be better off adding another 400 or just use one 600? I dont want to go TO big, cause more watts means more heat and than i got to buy a bigger fan. You input would be helpful.

thanks, but that will cost too much to run, plus i will have to buy a bigger fan, more electricty to pay for. I got another 400 now, i just wont to know what would work better 1 600 or 2 400's. thanks for the advice.

I would use the 600, if the space is going to stay the same. I'd do like Aero said though and get the 1000. If you were willing to run (2) 400's it's only going to cost you about 20% more. It will more than make up for it in yield and quality. If you air cool it, you should not notice much of a difference in heat. It really depends on your space and desires.

A Single 600 will be the most efficient, just make sure you can deal with the heat before you buy anything

The space will not change. one thing i forgot to mention , i have only about 3' of head room above the tops of the flood trays. my plants grow to about 18 to 24 inches tall. I cool my lights with air from under the house. my desire is a little better yield without doubling my electric bill or buying more stuff for my room( bigger fan). If i go with a 600 thats all i need to buy, i think my 250cfm fan will keep it cool. I already got the second 400. I just want to know what will work better 2 400 or 1 600. Thanks for ur help.

You have 12 square feet of canopy (or space) so to light it properly requires about 50 watts per square foot, or 600W total. Two 400's will give you more than that (which is good) but also more heat. Your yield would be better out of two 400's than a single 600, and have two points of light for a more even canopy.

Good luck!

One more thing...

I have a 2' x 4' table with 2 400W lamps and one 3' X 3' table with one 600W.

The 2 X 400W set-up is better for a SOG grow with plants less than 2' tall max.

the 1 X 600W set-up can grow 3' plants well.

more good info, thanks. my gro is a modified sog, i grow 24 plants in 4 flood trays (6 each). Each tray is a differnt nute mix. i move the plants from one tray to the next every 2 weeks. i harvest 6 every 2 weeks, i start 6 new ones every 2 weeks. works great never out of meds. The modification is, i dont go right from clone to flower, i have the same size setup for veging , i let plants veg for about 4 to 6 weeks. depending on size. i try to put them into flower when they are about 1`2 inches. my veg light is a 250mh.
