????? Double Spectrum ?????

double spectrum any one use both MH and HPS during veg or flowering? have been subjecting my little ones to a little HPS a day like 3 to 4 hours a day. Just starts to get a little to hot to run all day low 90 high 80 that is why don't run for to long. Am i crazy or can this work how i think it mite lots of light bushy and nice plants, so use both? :pointlaug Plez tell me im not a nut. thanks guys always a big help when needed. :plant grow:

Hey Mr Icedtoker

(IMHO)

Blue Spectrum : Vegetative Growth,
Red Spectrum : Flower/Branching Growth,

If you move the plants back and forth,IT could stress them out? (not sure on that one) but stress causes Herms and Males. (this I recently found out, unless I'm simply unlucky)

But I would suggest rather follow the guide lines above as If it affects your flowers in anyway youll be bleak,

but I did buy MH & HPS convertible magnetic ballasts to try out in my next grow-op (250W & 400W). I'm thinking 2 x MH | 1 x HPS for vegetative, and 2 x HPS | 1 x MH for flowering. I haven't come up with a light moving system as yet. The yields have to be better than merely FL for vegetative, and then transplanting outdoors for flowering. I am thinking of using FL for cloning & early vegetative growth only.

Results are bound to be somewhat strain dependent, but some of the nicest sativas I have experienced originally came from higher elevations, where the near UV and blue spectrum are stronger. I would recommend going with both, as it would more closely represent real life. I have even been toying with some magnetic ballasts that will handle 250W MV bulbs, which are even higher in near UV.

I read of a long time grower that veges under mh, then flowers under hps and does the last 2 weeks under mh. Sounds easier than your current way.

CMH is a more sun like spectrum than either hps or mh. You can go with it all the way thru.

Dual spectrum is a good idea. I used 1 MH 1 HPS veg, 1MH 2 HPS flow. Works. I'm altogether abandoning HID for CFLs + Sun since HIDs are sort of a hassle/danger. You could get the CMH but needs enclosure I think (doesn't emit UVs, health +, potency -). CFLs work sufficiently IMO but HIDs beat them, CMH beats that, then Sun beats that. Also if possible to run at least partly on Sun, saves $, less/no heat byproduct, potency +, faster, most importantly you're an environmentally conscious.

All the African sativa I have grown are all more responsive in flower to red spectrum lights, The difference in area I believe does not play a part in what light the plant is actually using, the science applies to any plant with regard to Photosynthesis as it will only use what light it can actually utilize regardless of what light the plant is under (the sun included).

I live in Africa.

IMHO, a waste of electricity, I believe the plant does not utilize blue spectrum light as much as it would a red spectrum light in the flowering stages of light. (but i seriously enjoy your theory as it makes plenty of sense in its own right.)

Lots of people ad MH Lamps in flower and it definitely seems to make a positive impact. I have seen evidence that it produces healthier, bigger plants, and absolutely gives you more resin glands. I will say however I have only seen proof when the MH bulb was the Hortilux BLue and this is no regular MH bulb. That's my little opinion - believe it or not you should always keep an open mind about lighting as HID's are pretty much using the same spectrum technology as we had in the 70's.

I have added mh to hps before with wonderful results. somewhat tighter internode length( which doesn't suck)
