well...i'm setup to change my veg from 24/0 to 18/6, by setup i mean i am using 3 different timers which i will activate tonight and stay up to watch them turn off correctly in sequence and then turn back on in the correct sequence

sequence?

yes, in a row we have the light setup like this from left to right: led panel - hps lamp - led panel

led panel 1 - turns on @ 2:30am
hps lamp - turns on @ 3:30am
len panel 2 - turns on @ 4:30am

led panel 1 - turns off @ 8:30pm
hps lamp - turns off @ 9:30pm
led panel 2 - turns off @ 10:30pm

i am trying to simulate the sun's movement in a very feeble way haha, the ultimate goal is to

1) provide a little rest time with the dark hours
2) get the plants to slowly move as they do outside tracking the sun

so no work on the weekend will allow me to stay up later, if i can get myself to stay up i'll be activating the timers tonight, otherwise i'll try for tomorrow night haha *coffee, redbull, more thai!*

First of all I have used 24 hours veg for over 20 years, I did experiments with dry weight yields and Cannabinoid total yields at both 24 and 18/6 and then flowered at 12/12. 24 gave higher yields, what can I say?
Were the plants better off under 18/6, maybe but I did not see 24 as a real problem for them in any way.
I also in my greenhouse used 60 w blue grow incancesdents one per 10 square meters or about 100 square feet in the winter at night with natural sunlight as photoperiod correction for large veg mother plants. Never lost a single mother, they very slowly grow all winter, which is what I wanted it was my plant library. They only correct photoperiod.
I also grow small mothers under 8-10 C with the lights on for 2 hours then off for 6 and the plants stay alive, slowly grow and stay veg for 6 months at a time. This is in a refrigerated/heated TL lighted grow chamber.
I am sure that none of this is the very best for them, it is what is best for me, and I can't find the negative effects of any of them.
I don't really grow under lights, I use the sun and kinda laugh when people using artificial lights make claims about which artificial light is best, be honest the sun is best for many reasons starting with the lack or minimal of carbon footprint. Growing Cannabis under lights is just not right to me, I know many will say WTF? But I refuse to flower under lights, I know you can, but I choose not to as it is not needed. If you live in an area where you must keep cultivation private I understand the need, but it it because of the laws not what is best for the plant or planet. How much electricity do you think is consumed daily worldwide growing Cannabis? I am sure it is enough to be concerned about the effects the electrical production causes for us all.

I used to run 18/6 in Veg and absolutely saw more s w/ the strains I run when I switched to 24/0 result. Plants were bigger w/ more nodes in less time. ( I sometimes think consistent temps help. ) With any aspect of growing I am sure strain has a lot to do with this since there are so many people who have different experiences with 18/6 vs 24/0. I think the only way you know what is gonna be better in your room ( and with your strains ) is to always try it in your room. Lighting intensity, spectrum, temps, humidity, cO2 ppms, type of media,........ all these things are variables to every aspect of your grow and with more experience I think everyone learns that those little variables can make huge differences. Successful growers stick with what has proven to work for them in their particular system, and a lot of proven methods go against what a botanist would say is " supposed to happen."

As always this is just an IMO. Growing is an art.

My first 2 grows were 24/0 and when I switch to 18/6 the roots were growing faster witch in turn made the plants grow faster. I am growing hydro so I can see the roots. With my grows mine did a little better with the 18/6.

I have found 18/6 hr cycle gets good results. Ever heard of Corn looking like its grew a few inches over night? Thats because it did. Plants focus mostly on making and storing food/energy during photoperiod and using food/energy at night for growth. Its referred to as the "Calvin Cycle". I clone under 24 hrs until very first signs of roots and switch to 18/6. :ying: Hope that helps, however it seems to be highly controversial regardless.

Watch out Sam my brotha, one of the admins hate anyone who is pro 24/0 light cycle. Removed the picture and proof from Bob and Rumple. Lots of folks showing cool proof of no dark cycle but all get removed. Can't keep the truth in the dark.

My plants grow 33% faster with out that Calvin dude helping (how is that possible?). Did um both ways 18/6 much slower and un-healthy. My 24/0 plants are much bigger and finish with more bud.

Did it both ways and know the truth.

Dude, we have 36 pages of people extolling the virtues of 24/0. The only posts removed have been removed for trolling, bickering and unhelpful, unwarranted, untrue attacks.

Because artificial lighting CAN NOT completely replace the natural light of the sun... Yet.

We create an artificial environment for indoor grows but it is still lacking. So to compensate for the insufficient quality of light we compensate with quantity.

I read a thread yesterday that explained this perfectly, I will locate it and post it for you.
This is an old debate and for new growers it doesn't really make sense because we try everything we can to duplicate nature and recreate a natural eco system for them to grow.

The problems with that are numerous, beginning with the seed. Nature encourages them the grow and procreate; most growers try and play God so to speak. We shape, groom, feed, snip, top, and well; we play God to the plants and manipulate them to kiss our asses and grow the way we dictate in accordance to how "we individually" wish the plant to serve our needs, space, climate, finances, wants and a million other intentions/purposes.

So to answer you question; I can plant a seed in the ground and hope it grows.
OR I can plant a few seeds, help em grow and then nurture them like children and cultivate them to become the glorious beauties we love.

Nuff said?

Right on Jeffie, I knew I was not the only one seeing the shame goinz on here. Aint no one using 18/6 growing the same size buds as Bob, Rumple, or yours truly. The good picts keep getting deleted. Go back and check for yourselfs.

Nice plant above this post but shit aint looking all yellow in my grow. Might want to switch and see it green and big.

Stop the hate'n bitsiz.

TOTAL BS

TOTAL BS

THE PLANTS IN THE PIC LOOKS YELLOW BC OF 3000WATTS OF HPS DIRECTLY ON THE PLANT. HERES A PIC WITH LIGHTS OFF DURING VEG STAGE(no yellow reflecting! LOL you newb) . COLOR IS THE SAME NOW AND CAN POST NEW PICS, SECONDLY, I HAVE MORE INTENISTY IN LUMENS THEN THE SUN SO THE STATEMENT OF MAKING UP FOR QUANTITY IS TOTAL BS. NOONE CAN DISPUTE MY RESULTS, YOU CAN LEAD A HORSE TO WATER, BUT CANT FORCE IT TO DRINK. LET SEE YOUR PIC. LOL :moon:

this whole horse to water and not drinking is silly

it has been proven long ago that one simply needs to puff in the horses face for a time, that horse is going to develop cotton mouth if you keep at it, if you keep on keepin' on before you know it that horse is just going to HAVE to take a sip of the water you led him to

so yes you can indirectly force it to drink

when all is said and done, i'd just like to state for the record that my horse is much higher than yours
