So ive been looking to start up some new businesses. If anyone here is from Arizona would you chime in to the grow market and if there is a need for more suppliers. Id like to be able to help the new emerging cannabis patients in AZ through my years of experience and knowledge. Ive always believed there are three principals to run a business by: low prices - quality product - excellent customer service. Thank you. -BhT :tiphat:

I'm sure there is always room for more shops, but keep in mind it wasn't illegal to have a hydro store before prop 203, so there are plenty that have been doing business in AZ for years already.

I think a lot of dispensaries will struggle to keep up. Well, maybe some are putting together some giant warehouse grows, but others will be smaller. If they can't, then that's where caregivers can affiliate/contract with a dispensary and supply for 5 patient's worth of weed.
Otherwise not too many caregivers will be able to grow 'cause of the 25 mile nonsense.
Come set up a smoke shop where you can talk about what you really smoke in a waterpipe and you can say the word 'bong.'

I'm here in AZ ... nothing is "up and running" yet, this state won't ready till late summer / winter of 2011 .. lots of tape left to work through. Won't be anything like California at all, alot of state involvment here... lots ! .. but it's a start.

You basicly have 3 gear stores that have been running for a while now! Sea of green west (bell road and I-17) Sea of green in tempe, and homegrown hydro tempe. The town could honestly use a couple more hydro stores! Your taking my idea WTF! The guys at sea of GREEN west are great and really know there shit! Homegrown hydro feels more like a mom pop shop good vibes. They also had some plant tissues culture stuff going on (I'm liking the idea). If you built it they well grow!!!

I'm sure that you would do well,I lived in Tempe and Mesa in the 80s,expect to be under a microscope. Something else you might consider, consulting. Consultants are going to be needed in all phases of this massive undertaking of legalizing and regulating medical marijuana. Patients, doctors, dispensaries, hydro shops etc. A lot of $$$ is going to be made by consultants and attorneys.

Hopefully your on the non-maricopa edge of AJ. Fuck sheriff Joe!

I could have sworn I heard him do an interview where they were discussing substance and substance abuse and Joe said that he was against marijuana, except in instances where it was for medical use. I could be mistaken and who knows, maybe hes like the many that will say one thing in a interview to save face and do another when it comes down to action... Still looking into AZ, but im almost sure there are 1000 other people who are looking to do the same. I dont believe in liscense caps. I say permit them all and let the consumers sort it out.

fortunately, due to the will of the people legislation in place in AZ (bourne of the last time MMJ was usurped by the state); it will be near impossible for the state to deviate from the law as it's written. It won't be California, but it won't be a police state either. I expect it to work out well. Any attempts to violate the letter or intent of the law as written will result in a swift court victory, again due to teh will of the voter legislation put in place years ago.

We'll get our first look this Friday at the draft regulations....

Draft well be good to see. The head of the health dept. (William something something) did say that the 124 dispensary's would either be auctioned off to the highest bidder or a lottery system.

Sigh...that sounds quite ridiculous.

How do they expect it to be a non-profit industry, yet only allow those with the highest capital to become liscensed?

And the other option a lottery?

Why not just liscense all of them and let the patients sort it out? What difference does it make if you have 15 shops or 50,000? Let the people who are in this industry for the right reasons succeed, while those just looking to make a quick buck at the sake of the patients fail.

Now is the time for the people of Arizona to make their voice heard. Dont allow your medical marijuana program to be forced into back-room deals where only the wealthiest will be allowed to operate, these are the people who put profits over patients and will do anything to keep their hold of their market.

The limit on # of dispensaries is actually written into the law put forward by the Marijuana Policy Project. Further, they also wrote in the no-growing within 25 miles of dispensary caveat earlier. I had a long argument with the MPP in Arizona over this back in early 2010, and initially disagreed. Having seen the margin it passed by, I think it was wise. Most AZ residents do NOT want Oaksterdam, we're 4000 votes lucky to have what we have, period.

I think the dispensaries will be selected based on criteria such as physical and data security, workflow plans, etc. I highly doubt it will be one-metric such as net worth or lottery. Best business plan that provides safe access of a wide variety of quality medication should be the focus.

I still say that the BEST aspects of the AZ law by far, are the protections for patient drivers preventing DUI abuses, and protection from firing by employers for simple metabolite in urine. That is the first time to show up in ANY law, and has proved to be a major achilles heel in other programs. Bravo MPP for that.

Given the 4000 vote margin, it's clear that AZ has pushed the envelope as far as it can go. Looking forward to Friday, and hoping Will Humble has kept it 100% pragmatic and 0% emotion or political. He seems like a pragmatist.
