How important is drying in total darkness...

Little history about my set up first off....

5'x6' flower room

3'4' veg room

above the veg room I've got another 3'x4' space I was putting together as my drying area but now I'm worried about the smells.

The way I have it set up is the air coming into the flower room gets pull from the drying area...which gets pulled from the veg area...and then its all exausted outside through a carbon filter.
The problem is i'm a bit worried that the drying area smells won't be as controlled as its just made out of plywood.

So my main question is.....if I were to say fuck it and turn the drying area into another veg box and just hang the plants upside down in the flower room to dry with maybe something (like a sheet?) blocking out most of the light when its on what could I expect the end product to be?

I'm a legal grower and I don't sell my wares, however since I've started growing I've become a bit of a "pot snob" and if it makes a huge difference I won't do it...but if it really isn't that big of a diff I'll probably just do it that way.

Anyone else dry in their flower room? Wouldn't be a big deal but the finishing time on the strains I'm running vary by about 12 days.

it would be fine as long as temps are fine.

i do it all the time.

Ya right now the temps are gonna be like 55-60f (little on the low side) and I'm gonna keep the humidity right at 50%...

I'm just gonna do it as a veg room for now.....these limits on plant numbers make it hard to only have a 3x4 veg area if I wanna grow trees + keep like 4 moms going..

Thanks for the response.

I dry in my flower cab all the time since it's the only thing I have that has an air scrubber hooked up to it. If you are still flowering in your cab/room you don't want that HID light hitting your buds though, I have read it degrades the THC faster. What I do is get a cardboard box that's tall enough so that the buds wont touch the floor, and string some fishing line along the top of the box and hang the buds inside of that. That way I can put the box in the flower cab and not have them be exposed to direct light but still take advantage of the scrubber. Good luck!

light degrades thc after its chopped. keep it in a dark area, carboard boxes for hanging clothes works great. hid light will fuck your shit up keep those buds away from it

dry some both ways, light and dark...i found no difference !! i like drying in my flower room, its nice temp humidity and the air is scrubbed...vegg room is good too but the carbon isnt strong enough to handle the sour lovin !!

just put all the budz into A large cardboard box......close the lid

they'ell be fine......just keep the budz out of direct light.....
thatz what the box will do.....plus it will help pull-out any moisture in the budz for a better dry and cure........

keeepz the airflow from directly contacting the budz leading to premature krispy budz........

Boxez baby.all the way.......

They used to dry pot in the sun in Mexico and around there, maybe they still do? Some of it is great smoke.

Anyways, if you dry in flower or veg room, try to not get direct light on them just in case. I hang them above the lights in tent. Do not think it makes a bit of difference really.

Ya that's what I'm gonna do...just hang em higher than the hood.

Gonna make it alot easier to keep more strains now....

Hate the plant limits....

i have seen scientific research stating how much light degrades thc yrs ago. smoking a bowl you may not notice much of a difference but there is. i want my shit to be the best it can be and find a dark place isnt hard. i dont see a reason to dry your stuff near a hid lamp, you will also be drying it too fast. there should be no direct air on your buds but a fresh exchange once an hr at least. and no heat sources in there unless your curing in a cold room. ask a pro how he cures his nugs
