Just get him the console with one game that he wants. He gets the one month free with the console. Let his parents foot the bill for the live if he wants to continue to play. the console and the game is enough IMO

Cool gift.

Like most said. The 360 comes with an X-Box live subscription. Get him that and he'll be good to go. He'll be able to play online with all his friends. After the month is up his parents can buy him an X Box live subscription. Once he has the X-Box he will be able to buy the subscription from the menu on his X-Box. Don't worry about the points stuff.

I don't know how many controllers the 360 comes with these days. If it only comes with one I'd get him another one so he can play with someone else at the house.

JJ, the best thing about the 'Live' is that he plays with friends online...nobody required to be in the room with him. My boys play 'live' 99% of the time....they develope a circle of online players and get lost in it for hours...and yes, he will love you for it

Uncle JJ, you're the best!!

If you check around, you should be able to find a nice bundle package now that it is Christmas time. You can usually find a bundle with the xbox, 2 games and a controller for around $200.

And as Spastic Gramps says, if the bundle doesn't come with a second controller, spring for one so he can whip you ass on COD:Black Ops (hehehe).

Dude, good on ya!

Gonna buy myself a set of these for myself for xmas! they are only £39.99 when you uy anything else in the store (gonna buy mariocart on the wii for my mum)

I know this might sound dumb, but you need the internet to use xbox live so only buy him that if he has broadband.

I would say get him the xbox and some games, let him and his parents work out xbox live. They can setup parental controls etc, that way you dont get into a yearly fee for his xbox live and maybe they might not even want him on there.

From what I have seen kids who are introduced to that stuff at a young age get super dependent on it and end up raging throwing controllers / screaming.

Good luck!

Just make sure you get one with built in wifi receiver and at least a 4gb hd. All those accessories you have to buy for the arcade edition is bs.

If you aren't using arcade edition the only thing you'll need to buy is xbox live, but it's not that much. Besides a headset which is totally optional, but enhances game play 10 fold.

OK folks, I have another question.

I got him the XBox and bought him a 50 dollar card for XBox live. I just got a call that when he was setting the thing up it asked for a credit card number to "verify that he's an adult". Does this have to be done?

People told me not to give them a credit card number but it says it has to have one.... Whats the deal?

Heres the deal, you put in the card number and once your pre given / bought time is up it will auto charge the card, its a yearly thing I THINK, you may be able to sign up for a monthly fee.

Tell them the card number goes in but no charge, not until the free trial is up, DO NOT PUT YOUR CARD ON IT, if done wrong he could simply buy a ton of shit with it and leave you on the water with no paddle haha.

Bet it's already set-up, but just put his birthdate as one that would make him 18.....don't put a C.C.# in!

Sorry, to be more clear - you only need a CC# when it's a child signing-up (to verify a parent is paying attention/sly way to get ahold of the CC#) - if you set the birthdate as something that would make you 18 or older, no CC needed.

I just got one from Amazon for $39.99 w/ free shipping. I had to wait a few days until they were back in stock, but it's the best price for a card (not the code by email) i've found.

most big box stores like best buy, target etc carry them. so does game stop.
Some times you can find discounted ones online like amazon or buy.com. beware the ebay scammers who sell cards that have been used and resilver the code over.

I tend to wait till I find a store's 10%, or greater, coupon for whole store purchase and buy one with a bunch of other stuff.

Does anyone know the best place to buy the years subscription?
it can be done after the free trial is over, there will be a membership option menu, to pay 10 a month or a one time fee of 60 for the year. i bought the year subscription with no regrets.

Awoll,

I have owed 2 of the Turtles..... don't get me wrong. They are decent headphones. Their construction can be a little fragile where the mic is on most pairs but still decent headphones for the money.

The Astro A40s are a completely different league.

These are the headsets used on the pro gaming circuit.

These are pro calibrated headsets that highlight specific frequency ranges so it's much easier to hear things like other people running around the board. They have a professional level of construction. Comfortable as hell .... 8 to 10 hrs wearing a pair is a pleasure. The mic is removable and left or right mounted. There are sound isolators pads you can put in, that come with them, which help block out noise from the room you are in if you need that. The mix amplifier is a dolby 5.1 surround amp so you here when people are for example: behind you and slightly to the left, with true clarity. They even come with a travel quality case The mix amp gives you on the fly chat vs game sound level controls. The amp even has an mp3 player input so you can feed music simultaneously to you headset while playing if you like. Custom logos are available too for the headset... you design they will make them for you, only costs an extra $25 to get my Company logo on them. The mic on the headset in unidirectional, it points at your mouth and pics up you speaking.... not your phone ringing, not your speakers, not your brother whining about how he wants to play... just you. They also now make a wireless version of sorts.
http://www.astrogaming.com/products/27/A40-Wireless-Systems/
the set is $279.99 for the wireless version.

I even use the set to watch action movies in surround sound late at night so I don't disturb anyone.

And if all that wasn't enough, Their Warranty and customer services is tits. If anything breaks just email them and the send you an RMA and full instructions to ship it back to them for a test and evaluation on their dime. That's right, they pay for repair shipping both ways!

Not everyone can afford or would pay for them. They are pricey, no question about it. But of those that I know that have used mine ALL have bought their own including my GF. Anyone I know that owns a pair has never looked back.

Like I said... the Turtles are decent and I've even owned a pair of the Razer Chimaeras but IMO the A40s are THE BEST gaming headset available ... end of story.
