What's new

C.A.P.(TMP-DNe) Day/Night Temp. controller's........

Whats up IC....

I just got this new controller and the shit is not working...Sucks, this is a big part of the situation....When I plug the heater/A/C into the controller, the Heater or A/C just runs, as if it was plugged straight into the wall....Its like the controller is a electrical bridge, nothing more...Kinda like an extension cord...lol..thats it....

Anyone else use this controller and have you had this problem before....Hit me up...

The place I got it from is cool...I just shot them an email....But im positive they will hook me up....I believe it comes with a warranty for a year or so...most CAP shit does...

Little vague... What do you have it set for Heat/Cool? What are your current room temps?

Lets just say.... Your room is at 50... You want your heater to come on... Set it to HEAT... Set your temp at 75, and it will stay on until it reaches 75

Keep it set at HEAT... If your room is at 80, set it to 50, and the outlet should be off....

Need more info

Not much help... sorry

This is not my area of expertise. Nor do I know much about this product. However looking at the description and pictures online this doesn't seem to be your typical home HVAC controller. It looks like there is only one plug, so a heater and A/C plugged in here wouldn't be the right tool for the job. In the picture it also look like there are jumpers or switches of some kind. Going off the description and the picture it seems that only a fan (like an inline fan) can be plugged in here. The little box has a photo sensor in it and knows day/night differences. I think that is how streetlights work but I'm not sure though. Maybe somebody will be able to clear this up a bit better.

Yeah, thanks for that info man....lol..

Not to be a dick..but ya'll must be high as fuck...lol...Its exactly what I said it was..its a Day/night Temperature Controller....It turns on either a heater or an A/C, depending on what you have it set for... Its exactly the right tool for the job..THATS WHAT IT IS MADE FOR! lol... My room temps are great....68-77..... I was not asking how to use the controller..its pretty self explainable... You set the desired temps for your day time, then set what temps you want at night, then plug in your heater or your A/C and PRESTO!

What Im saying/asking is....Does anyone else use this controller....Its made by a pretty common company that makes alot of different grow supplies...C.A.P... From what I understand, this is a pretty common fuck up with these controllers....just wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem...

Seriously though fellas, I do appreciate your trying to help...Not a huge issue, im getting a new one, but upgrading to a better one.....

This one here will hopefully work better...I don't "need" it, my temps stay between 68-77 degrees, but thats using a thermostat in a heater, This controller will ease my mind more...

I run a lot of cap equipment, I have seen a few duds. I usually call cap up, their techs can sometimes fix a problem over the phone.

I run the tmp-DNe hooked up to a window ac unit. Works flawlessly for me. CAP has an excellent warranty/return policy so call the place you got it.

The only issue I've come across with these controllers is that digitally controlled equipment (i.e. dehueys with digital controls, ac's with digital controls, etc) are not able to be turned ON by the tmp-DNe.
My dehuey is this way however you can usually put an extension cord between the timer and the appliance's cord and the unit will work correctly, something I had to do to controll a digital portable AC with it.

Had one for over a year, lost it in a move and went through two in two days so I switched to another company and its working great. Not a fan of cap

The tmp-DNe is a great idea with cheap contacts. It's rated for 15 amps but I use it to control 2, 5 kw A/C units and it froze the contacts closed in about a month of service.

IF you use it to control heavy inductive loads, a/c or heaters, consider using it as a trigger for a set of more durable contacts. Mine now triggers a 30 amp rated motor relay, which feeds the a/cs', and has been working flawlessly for about 2 and a half years.

CAP products are .... OK but there are much better devices out there such as Titan or Sentinal . My CAP vsc dne temp fan speed controller works pretty good for over a year now but my next buy will be a Sentinal controller .

I have been checking out the Sentinal brand controllers latey & they seem like they're made with some really good componants . i have no practicle experiance with them but i've done alot of research on different brands . & the Sentinals seem to stick out to me more than others . I've used a couple of the CAP's & my buddy is using a titan 4 . Titan , CAP & Growzone all seem pretty similar in quality . same basic design , size & price . The Sentinals stand out from that design in a good way .I'm also checkin out Greenair controllers too but haven't gotten much info on them yet .

I have an electrical back ground & building & buying stuff like this has always fascinated me :)

Right now i'm trying to control & adjust 3 different rez pumps so i have 3 different settings on 1 controller ( its not made by anybody ... that i've found ) I can buy a unit that will control each pump seperatly but only in 1 minute increments ... i seconds of control .

Dan this is more plug and play than DIY but here is a link for a second increment timer

Thanx for that link Frank ... i haven't seen that one before . :thank you:

My CAP TMP-DNe is sitting on the shelf gathering dust. Complete waste of money, doesn't work right. The temp sensor is off or the temp set dials are munged, who knows. Its a cheap piece of crap in a cheap flimsy plastic box. Gonna sell mine on Ebay.....Get a Sentinel, you're done.

Hey thanks for the suggestion(s).
About Sentinel, the EVC-1 Actually seems to be pretty fair priced from what I can gather, especially considering that it comes wired with a grounded plug and 2(!) receptacles! It's the analog environmental controller, the EVC-2 is the digital one.
But, for what I need; water cooling, I'm not sure it would be appropriate. It says for cooling "fans, air conditioners".
However, the probe on the EVC-1 looks like a simple metal probe (stainless steel I hope/would be needed for my application). That would be great.

Anyone have experience with the Sentinel EVC-1? Could I submerge that probe in a nutrient reservoir?
Thanks.

Note: The EVC-2 (digital) has a 'fancier' looking probe that you would NOT submerge in water to control reservoir temps. Google it if you want to see what that probe looks like - doubt you can put that thing in water.

I'm also looking at the "Ranco" brand controller: Ranco ETC-111000-000 Digital Temperature Controller. And the "Control Products" brand controller: TC-9102D-HV Dual Stage Digital Temperature Controller.
Similarly priced to each other and waaaay more functions than a Grozone, CAP, or similar. They require wiring; no big deal though. the "Control Products" one can control two receptacles at once. Don't thing the Ranco does.
Amazon review for the Ranco are great...Less reviews on the TC-9102d-HV.

Peace.
