Have you ever had some malty, or hoppy tasting herb? Hops are the cousin of Cannabis, afterall. And since hops can lend a citrus, or pine, or earthy flavor, I suppose there's definitely some hoppy tasting Cannabis out there!

Nevertheless, anybody ever smoke some herb that occured to them as mad beer-like? Like smokin' an IPA? I'm interested in your experiences!

i've had opposite before too. hops that smell and taste like the dankest buds ever. they share a lot of common terrpins and essential oils. hops also can have the same medicinal properties as cannabis. making a nice hot hop tea will clam even the most intense nausea and indigestion. not onlt that but eating hops can act as a wonderful anti-anxiety medication. in fact they feed hops to races horses to calm their nerves on race day. hops also have a very strong antiseptic property which is the main reason they became the main bittering ingredient in beer. before the 1300's brewers used things like thyme and rosemary to bitter and balance out their beers. once they discovered that beer made using hops lasted much longer and well tasted much better it became the soul of all beers as we know it. in my opinoin hops are just as valueable to mankind as cannabis if not more so... but that is coming from a hop crazy farmer.

i argue that hops beer Tastes better, but yes it does keep better than many other aromatic herb beers :)

lol i would like to know why Hops is as valuable as cannabis ? Im a fan of Humulus so i'd like to hear it.
The fibers are inferior quality/versatility/strength,
you cannot sustain a human body on hops... perhaps seed is edible, but is minuscule and hard to get quantity of...
the medicinal qualities are extremely limited compared to cannabis,
etc
etc
etc

I have had Mandala#1 .... most phenos express an intense Yeasty aroma at some point in flowering and or drying, in my experience.

Some of the Skunk family can very much resemble the aroma of Hops.

Tasting like beer? never have i tasted bitter/rich/malt/anything beer in puffin a pipe.

I wish man, I really do. Some sweet/earthy indicas that are closer to landraces may recall a stout or porter if you wanna stretch your perceptions a bit.

hops psychoactive

hops psychoactive

Hops contain lupulin whichis mildly psychoactive.
Which is a good reason not to ban cannabis.A

I'd rather taste hops that are more like cannabis than vice versa.

Hopleaf is right in that the cousins share terpenes.

I wouldn't really argue its value either.

Maybe you could sustain yourself with your hempseed under the shelter of a perennial shade provided by hops?

Or you could live into now and just enjoy an ale and a spliff.

why does everyone on this site feel the need to try and flex their intellectual prowess on this site. i said and i quote " but thats coming from a hop crazy farmer" jesus christ people smoke a bong and leave that pissy little attitude behind you. it was a fucking joke. obviously i don't belive that hops are more valuable than cannabis... they put them in the most dangerous drug on earth. come on people. ya i love hops more than weed, but thats becuase i make my livelihood from hop farming. cannabis is superior and more beneficial than hops any day, but more people consume hops than cannabis everyday.

I have grown hops, I have collected hops clones and seeds, both cultivated and wild.
But I would never say that hops have more value to mankind for the simple reason I don't drink beer. Hops although interesting, is all but useless to me. Cannabis has medicinal, recreational, and textile uses, as well as more uses. Hops???

unless you live in some thirdworld shithole it's not beer unless it has hops. that is pretty much the law everywhere.

Loves me a piney, hoppy, west-coast IPA. Stone Brewing's IPA even has that grapefruity aftertaste. But I prefer Bear Republic Racer 5, New Belgium Ranger, or the Stone Ruination myself. So many good ones - Russina River Pliny the elder, Ballast Point Sculpin.

My mouth is watering.

But no, I don't get the same phenomenon from beer.

You're more likely to get a beer with weed notes than weed with beer notes. At least IME.

I do love me a good IPA.

Ive had cannabis wine which took 2 years to make, but wow what a hit pissed and stoned exactly the same time, after a year it tasted like ditch water or moonshine a rough one at that.2 years and it slid down like a fine cognac my father made R.I.P TOP NOTCH she were

sorry machush. i don't know where you live and i was being a dick. where i live what you said is considered blasphemy. i took what you said as fighting words... i guess we both misinterpreted eachothers posts. now i feel like that turd for being so simple minded. we're all hop brothers in here, and there's no reason for rudness. once again i'm sorry brother and i hope you can accept my apology.

Thanks for all the replies guys! I plan on taking the harvest from one of my future grows, dry sifting it, and throwing the spent buds into a vat of wine. There'll be a thread!

here's my cannabis ale recipe for the 5 gallon homebrewer:
15lbs american 2-row barley
1.5lbs of caramel 20l malt
.5lbs chocolate malt
1oz of hops at 10-12 alpha acid units( i really like my zues or simcoe)
3oz of hops at 7-9 alpha acid units ( i really like cascade or glacier)
you can use any high alcohol tolerant yeast ( i use wyeast 1056 mixed with recultured bigfoot yeast from sierra nevada)
1-1.5oz of very nice sugar trim or some nice buds.

the all-extract method:
1lbs caramel 20l
.25lbs chocolate malt
12lbs dry malt extract(light)
1lbs amber dry malt extract.
2oz of 10-12 AAU hops
3oz of 7-9 AAU hops (note: always use more hops when brewing with extract)
same yeast as above.

Step 1: heat 5 gals up to 153f and steep grains for 30 mins
step 2: after done steeping grains add malt extract
step 3: bring to boil and watch out for it to boil over (hotbreak)
step 4: after hotbreak has settled down add 2oz of 10-12 AAU hops and set timer for 60mins.
step 5: after half hour of boil add 1 oz of 7-9 AAU hops
step 6: after 50 mins add 1 oz of 7-9 AAU hops.
step 7: finish boil then cool you wort(unfermented beer) FAST!
step 8: get wort into fermenter and add yeast... wait 14 days for primary fermentation to finish.
step 9: transfer beer into 2nd fermenter and add 1oz of 7-9 AAU hops and cannabis...let sit for another 2 weeks.
Step 10: bottle and add 2/3 cup sugar for priming... give the bottles 2 weeks to carb, and then enjoy... obviously this recipe is meant for someone who already has a good idea of how to brew beer. sorry i don't have one for wine.
