Well, why not...

This is a record of my first vert grow, very ghetto. I am not planning on anything impressive, just trying to keep a record of round 1, so I have a starting point to look back on, and improve with.Only had a few days to build and set up room, but It's working.

I was reading the vert threads one day here on icmag, and figured, why not, let's do it..

Will have strains, room, environment, and additional 1000w for round two, but that's in the future..

For round one I have 25 girls, various strains.

11 AK47
3 blueberry
1 G13 mother
6 NL#2
4 NL

The G13 mother is in 5 gallon , all the rest are 3 gallon hempy with 4-1 ratio.

R/O water with 1tsp/gal cal/mag+

Feeding lucas with GH FloraNova Bloom from rooted clone to mid flower, and then 5ml/gal FNB +2.5 ml/gal Koolbloom till flush.

Current conditions
RH varies from 40-50%, mostly hovers around 50.
Temp ranges from 65 at night, to 78 day

I'd like to have the RH right at 40 all the way through, and the temps to be a little higher at night, but the girls seem happy, so I'm not going to tweak until next round.

I decided with round 1 that I would just stake the plants, and figure out screens or whatever for next round..I MAY regret that..we'll see.

First pic is from day 1 of 12/12

Rest are today, day 23 from 12/12

the last pic is blue cheese I'm smoking.

Very dank, can smell a mile away..This is the only bud from the plant that had this, but a golden resin glob?? that burst from a calyx.

Thanks! Wish I could, I didn't have a veg room at the time, and so lost the genetics. I seriously love the blue cheese smell and high.

Red, thanks for the kind words, but I can only hope that someday I can get my grows dialed in to emulate the success that you have.Your grow threads were one of the keys of my switching to vert.
I was very nervous to switch, as I had my horizontal grows dialed in, but the increased yields and better use of the bulbs and my limited floor space are what sucked me in.

I can say that I'm glad I switched. Anyone who is on the fence with this should just jump in. My plants are sure glad I did!

looks good man next time trim a few of the front fan leaves off. It will turn that popcorn into bud.

I did do some defoliation, but being my first time, I was nervous about cutting too much back..I just trimmed a few more off last night, but again, I'm used to growing organic soil, and leaving plants to grow natural with topping only, so I'm not only trying to change my philosophy from soil to hempy, and from horizontal to vert, but also from leaving the plants alone to defoliation!

It's been tweaking my brain out doing everything opposite than I've learned.

Leaf prunning/ trimming/ defoliation go hand in hand with vertical, remember you plants dont get lights from top down anymore, but from the sides now ...

one thing for sure with vertical is that TRIM all the BACK branches .... you'll be much happier in the end that you did

heres a pic of the back on my plants, the gardener didnt do a good job removing all of them, next time there wont be any branches back there :)

( this was about 3 or 4 weeks into it )

Day 33 update

Day 33 update

Ok-

day 33 of flower.

Girls are coming along nicely. I am stoked. I've gotten my RH down to hovering at 36-42, day temps 77-79, night temps hit 64 every night..wish that was a tad higher, but don't have a lot of options at this time.

The plants are now all getting the Floranova bloom at 5ml/gal and Koolbloom at 2.5ml/gal.
This AK goes about 50 days, so I'll be cutting nutes in about 12 days for those 11, and then not too sure on the NL's. The G13 will probably go about 68 days.

I never play the 'guess your weight harvest game', but I can safely say my per plant yield will be going up.:)....
Those middle buds are just filling out great.

Very nice Zendo! That's what it's all about! Just one tip... you want as few bends in your ducting as possible... To minimize resistance. Sounds like your temps are good so it's not an issue now... but in the summer you might be able to keep things a little cooler if you straighten out the ducting.

Cool man, thanks for the advice..I'll get that thing hanging from the ceiling, and run the line straight out the hole. I'm going to be adding another 600 or 1000w in there, so heats going to become an issue for sure, and I'll need any help I can get.

Looks great Zendo.
It takes a while to get used to doing things different in vert. I've been vert'n for almost 3 years and I'm still learning, and changing things as I go. You'll get the hang of the trimming after your first harvest. Gotta fight the larf!
Looks like your headed in the right direction. I doubt you'll be switching back anytime soon.

:D arent you glad you switched ????

It could only get better from here :):)

cheers,
red.
I was apprehensive at first, but now that I'm nearing the home stretch, I am a complete convert.

I'm already super stoked for my next run, and haven't even cut these down yet!

looks good Zendo look like it's snowing in your garden almost as much as outside

haha, I wish! I spent about 1 1/2 hours shoveling, and it's already starting to fill back in!:wallbash:

Thanks marlo- I do feel like a noob with the vert still, but I'm excited about where it's going to go from here.
Next time I'll be much more aggressive with the rear buds. I'll just have a lot more this run for making salves/tinctures/lotions, etc..It'll make some patients very happy I'm sure.

And you are correct, I won't be going back to horiz. anytime soon, if ever!
