Hey guys im new to this whole preping your soil for next year. I want to go organic next season for the first time and im kinda confused as to what to add to my soil. I read so many different recipes in the organic thread that i got over whelmed. Can anyone give me some advice or some directions on what to add and how much of it? I would greatly appreciate it, because this stuff overwhelms me pretty easy. Im more of a hands on learner then a person that can read something and apply it. So if you can make it as easy as possible I would be greatful.

Thanks again

a little more info would be helpful

If your guerrilla growing, most organics can attract digging critters who will dig up your roots and kill you plant. If your in a fenced in backyard, your good to go.

If you guerrilla growing, avoid blood meal, bone meal, anything fishy and probably chicken and rabbit poo. Alternatives are alfalfa meal(N), rock phosphate(P) and granite dust(K) or you might could get away with greensand. It is from the ocean but it is fossilized, so it might not attract critters. You will also want some lime, perlite and water crystals.

What I've done before was pre-mix some perlite and verm (very lightweight) and amend that into the natural soil to make break up the soil compaction a bit and put water crystals in the top few inches, then just sprinkle a slow release fertilizer on top. (2 months max)

Sorry about the lack of info. I will be guerrilla growing. I usually just add a bag or 2 of dirt to the natural dirt that is there. What kind of slow release ferts do you recommend that you have had success with?

I can't remember the name, just something generic from home depot. I try to find something with micro and macro nutrients.

Heres what I do...it's simple but works very well.

Just after harvest the ground is dug and cleared of dead roots weeds ect, barrow loads of compost, blood/bone, pelleted chicken manure, sand, garden lime are dug in then the ground is covered until Feb.

In Feb I'll repeat the process and recover the ground until planting out time (May),once the plants go in the soil will get a top dressing of farmyard manure every now and again.

forget growing in the ground. Put each plant into a 200gal or 400gal smartpot and get 3-5lbs per plant. just a thought =)

Fuck that shit, then you gotta water them bitches way more and they stand out like a sore thumb. I like the ground way better for security, EVERY time I do containers guerrilla I regret it, then again I've never done 200+ gallon containers, but they would stand out like crazy around here.

I prepped one of my spots last week, it has bomb native, this year I actually grew a trunk that I couldn't wrap my hand around- I didn't bring in any soil, just used some planttone & miracle grow. I prepped it last week by going to the ocean, filling a backpack with seaweed, and I had some leftover apples at the house as well. Tilled it in & can't wait to see what I can do there next year.

I plan on prepping more spots with the seaweed & some fish along with some planttone, just haven't had the time to go fishing lately. But yeah, if you're near the ocean at all take a drive & get a bunch, it's free and it's one of the best fertilizers out there as long as it has a chance to rot, hell if your prepping spots now use whatever you can get that will rot, & bone meal shouldn't be a problem used way early, I fucked myself this year using it at the time of planting on one site, yeah they were dug up that night :(
