Anybody have any experience , or heard any thing regarding this, or maybe its just me..?

I have some big nylon sacks, originally used to hold 25kgs of grass seeds and ive thinking of cutting some drainage and using them as giant planter bags, im just a bit worried about the properties of the nylon, i know nylon is tough stuff, but thats ALL i know really !

any advice/ideas would be great :thank you:

that sounds like a man in the know !

thanks !

I went for it anyways, I stuffed 60 liters of soil into the sack then banzai charged the bag with my garden pitch fork to put in some drainage holes !

Those sacks are used for cattle feed too sobstory. I use them all the time but not to plant in, I use them to pack in dirt and other supplies to the grow site. 1 bag will hold 12 gallons of soil or 5 gallons of water, and if you tie the top tight with a string, its a tough package and you can throw it over a cliff without loosing your dirt. I love them.

But.... i wouldnt plant in them because they rot when exposed to weather fairly fast and then bust out on the side. If i keep mine dry and inside, they last for a while but if i leave one at a site or in the truck for anylength of time, they become weak and split out on the side when stressed with something heavy like wet dirt.

Can you dig your planting hole in ground and line it with weed mat?

ahhhh ok, thanks for the warning, i was a bit worried about that, they already have a funny bulge in them ! :thank you:

The spot im using is in the middle of a patch of wild ginger, a VERY aggressive plant with a bad-ass root system.....I doubt i could clear enough of a hole without herniating a disc or something, and then im pretty sure the ginger would just re invade that space with roots, matting or not !,

Containers also give me much needed height/clearance to make sure i get my full 6 hours direct sunlight

in my experience by the time they break down there is enough roots to hold it together. i also tend to cover with burlap so uv dont break it down faster. good luck

Ive covered the sacks with foliage from around the area , for stealth mostly, but hopefully that will help keep them protected from the sun as well ! Im gonna take some bamboo ive cut and stake the bags around the edges to try and increase their strength.

:tiphat:
