temp for heat mats on clones?

I bought a hydrofarm digital thermometer for heat mats. wondering what others set the temp at? Last round I had it at 78 with the sensor buried into a rapid rooter and it seemed like the plugs just didnt get that warm. This round I went to 81.

What are others doing?

I don't use a thermometer.
I put old CD cases under the ends of my seedling/clone trays, so there is a space between the heat mat and the bottom of the seedling tray,

Temps above 85 or below 65 will slow down cell division and the rooting process. the ideal temperature of your plugs is between 75 and 80 degrees.

just like Whodair, i just use a heat mat on the floor. ive never checked my the temp of my plugs and ive never had any problems.

stick a thermometer in your rooting cube, the adjust the heater's thermostat till the heater warms the thermometer reading the medium up to 23 degrees. Any temperature control on any heater will be a lie, spend a few minutes setting it up accurately and you will have no problems.

Reading and adjusting for the temps directly in the rooting medium gets you the correct reading you want.

great advice!

23 is C for those who dont know that. and it relates to around 75-80 F.

In my personal experience. i find that right at 73-75 seems the most ideal. i find that getting in the 80s causes too much water loss from transpiration and heat, thus wilting. anything less than 65-70 and growth will be very very slow.
