CHICO, Calif. (CBS/AP) The airport in Chico, Calif., had a security scare that led to an evacuation Friday after a passenger left his suitcase behind while he went to a medical marijuana dispensary, said police.

Police said the man arrived at the airport in a taxi when he realized he needed to stop at the dispensary. The man asked the driver to take him there, and they drove off without the bag.

Transportation Security Administration personnel spotted the item shortly after 8 a.m. Friday, and police cleared the airport, including the control tower, as a precaution.

Passengers from a United Express flight that landed during the evacuation were taken to a building away from the terminal.

Authorities eventually identified the bag's owner, and the airport reopened about an hour later.

aren't there xray machines and bomb sniffing dogs and machines there? why shut down the whole airport because someone dropped their bag off at the curbside check in and ran an errand after. unless he was holding up a plane from boarding, there should be zero issue. I guess this is what they mean by airports being on "high" alert. i apologize for the bad pun.. I'm truely very sorry.

tickle, the security and police walk up to you in airports in Cali (and I would assume all of America) if you have your bag on the floor. You are not allowed to put your bag down unless it is literally at your feet and at that Ive been asked to pick up my bag when I am standing, when sittin down waiting im sure its different. Theyre super nutty at airports now. Unattended bags are like spoiled milk. Doing so is some CTSO behavior.

and yes. They have Xray machines, metal detectors, beefy dikes, drug dogs, attack dogs weapons and way more, Sounds like Colorodo too. I heard they have a medicating area at the airport for patients, I dunno what someone in Cali would be doing unless he wanted to burn one before boarding or maybe take an edible in the suitcase he forgot. you could get shit through in your pocket easy, but there are random searches, I wouldnt take any risks.

security out here in the midwest is not nearly that dicky. from the way the story sounds, the guy didn't set his bag down and forget it, he checked it into the airline curbside check-in and then drove away. that was their red flag. I suppose it's shady behavior. but if he didn't inform one of the curbside people that he was running to a dispensary and coming back, then he's retarded. And as long as you have your card i've heard you can fly out of any bay area airport now with 8 oz. in each bag. I know that is the case in oakland. so it's not that unusual that someone would stock up before a trip from santa cruz.

and to me it sounds like they identified the passenger because he returned to the airport to check in for his flight, his bag was already being handled by baggage handlers. 10 years ago, this behavior wouldn't have even made anyone bat an eye.

how about that nice little false flag set up in portland with the kid trying to blow up a christmas tree. I guess the government will do anything to keep the terror alert high, even setting up naturalized citizens in fake terror plots so they can parade him out and say "look we got him!" even though they gave him everything he used, probably even the plans to carry out the "attack". now this kid will probably spend his life in federal prison for treason.

i know multiple people that have flown out of oakland to the midwest with 8 oz. of meds in each bag. they said it's so common out of oakland now they don't even stop your bag and verify your paperwork. wouldn't have believed it if i didn't pick someone up at the airport myself and see the bags.
